An easy and much-needed three points should be in store here for Kazakhstan as they play hosts to the winless San Marino with only two games left on the clock and the aim of hunting down Denmark in second.
Although far from a mathematical possibility, Kazakhstan still have a chance to qualify for Euro 2020 and for the second European Championship in a row. On the other hand, it is going to be a tough ask, as they must overturn a points tally of four with only six games left to play, which all but means they must hope Denmark fail to win both of their games the Danes meet with first-placed Slovenia on Friday night too, and head to Northern Ireland on Monday. In truth, they will likely beat Northern Ireland, even if they lose to Slovenia.
Much of this comes down to the fact Denmark beat Kazakhstan in the last international break. They did get a goal from Yan Vorogovskiy, but ultimately, Christian Eriksen and co. were simply too good for them.
Also in the last international break. Kazakhstan did give themselves hope with a 2-1 win over Finland, as Bakhtiyar Zaynutdinov scored twice late on in the second half to steal all three points from a goal down and away from home. This now puts the nation on five wins and three losses from the eight games so far, racking up a goals difference tally of 12 goals scored and nine conceded.
As for San Marino, not much can be said about them other than the fact they are once again winless and have been merely an attendee at these Euro 2024 qualifiers, as they are every time. However, they will leave this qualification process knowing that they managed to score a goal against a giant of the European scene and the Euro 2024 semi-finalists, Denmark.
Alessandro Golinucci was the hero that day, as he equalised for his side at the time, only for Yussuf Poulsen to steal all three points nine minutes later. San Marino also had two shots on target that day, which in itself is rare, and ultimately, it was their best game in years.
