Malta vs England Prediction, Tips & Stats

England will look to make easy work of things when they make the trip to Malta on Friday night as the European season drew to a close last weekend with the Three Lions sitting top of their European Championship table.

England have won both of their games so far in Group C and have managed to let in just one goal across the games when they avenged their Euro 2020 final loss to Italy by winning 2-1 in Rome. Harry Kane also broke the England all-time goalscorer record that day with a penalty finish in the first half putting the England captain on 54 goals.

Declan Rice also scored that day, as England then went on to beat Ukraine at Wembley with Kane bagging another goal to make it 55 for the Three Lions. Arsenal's Bukayo Saka also scored another goal for his country that day.

As for Malta, they sit bottom of the table with two losses so far after a defeat away to North Macedonia and a loss to Italy at home. They did, however, manage to beat Luxembourg in a 1-0 win away from home thanks to a finish from Krian Nwoko last Friday.

              Malta team news

Steve Borg is the main man at the back for Malta at 35 years od age and 73 caps under his belt. Jurgen Degabriele is the top scorer with the current squad with five goals from 22 caps and no man in Malta's history has a better goals to game ratio. Alexander Satariano also has three goals in 25 caps at 21. Jodi Felice Jones is the only man English fans could be aware of, as he plays for Notts County. St Johnstone's James Brown never got a call up and neither had Luke Gambin of Sutton United. Teddy Teuma had an excellent season with Union Saint-Gilloise but is out of action in this one.

              England team news

Although the Manchester City players like Jack Grealish and John Stones are expected to join up with the squad on Thursday, it's pretty much guaranteed none of them will play. This likely leaves Harry Maguire partnering Tyrone Mings at the back after Lewis Dunk left the squad through injury. Jordan Pickford likely gets is 53rd cap in goal too, as Kieran Trippier plays at right-back with Luke Shaw at left-back. Declan Rice and Jordan Henderson likely start in the centre but we could see a few changes up top considering the opposition, although Harry Kane should captain and lead the line once more. Nick Pope, is out with an injury and Mason Mount and Jude Bellingham have had to leave the squad with injuries, while Raheem Sterling and Jarrod Bowen never made it.
