For our Portugal vs. Liechtenstein prediction, we're going for a 5-0 win for the home side.
Portugal kick off their EURO 2024 qualifying campaign against Liechtenstein on Thursday night.
Portugal are looking to respond to a disappointing World Cup campaign that saw them eliminated in the quarter-final stage by Morocco following a 1-0 defeat.
They enter this game under the control of fresh hands with former Belgium manager Roberto Martinez now in the Portugal dugout, an appointment that will likely bring a new stylistic philosophy to Portugal following eight years of the defensively minded Fernando Santos.
Their enter this game amidst a mixed run of form having won three and lost two of their last five matches.
Their Nations League campaign last summer was similarly up and down with Portugal winning three, drawing one and losing two of their six games.
Controversially, Roberto Martinez has persisted with the selection of captain Cristiano Ronaldo, whose place in the team has been the subject of much debate over the last year with his efficacy - particularly when named in the starting lineup - and effect on his teammates often called into question.
Portugal are sharing a qualifying group with Liechtenstein, Iceland, Bosnia, Slovakia and Luxembourg so qualification should not be a problem. Liechtenstein are the weakest side in this group so three points is a foregone conclusion for Portugal here.
Liechtenstein enter this game in typically poor form having failed to win any of their last twenty-five matches, losing their last thirteen consecutively having scored just one goal in that period.
Liechtenstein are one of the three worst teams in Europe and will no doubt be the whipping boys of this group and claiming just a single win would be a huge achievement.
Their form away from home has been dismal too, with Liechtenstein failing to win any of their last thirteen games on the road.
It's effectively impossible to see Liechtenstein taking anything from this game as they face a side with vastly more quality than themselves who will be looking to contest for the top prize at the next tournament.
