Portugal are one of the main contenders for the European Championships this summer because of the plethora of talent Roberto Martinez has at his disposal. The bookmakers place Portugal as one of the forerunners for the tournament and with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo still maintaining a high standard, Portugal could repeat their success of 2016.

Portugal was ranked outsiders when they won the European Championships in 2016. The astonishing part of Portugal’s tournament win was that they only won game in normal time, in the entire tournament which was against Wales in the semi-final.

Roberto Martinez will lead Portugal in his first international tournament since his departure from Belgium. Portugal’s group provides a sense of favourability having been drawn in a group with Georgia, Turkey, and the Czech Republic. In qualifying, Portugal was flawless as they achieved a perfect record over ten matches. Portugal scored 36 goals in ten games and only conceded twice.

Here we have taken a look at the odds of a Portugal player being the Euro 2024’s Golden Boot winner ahead of this summer’s competition in Germany.

Unsurprisingly, Cristiano Ronaldo is amongst the favourites to win the Golden Boot this summer. The 39-year-old has been in tremendous form for Al Nassr this season and has shown that despite his age, Ronaldo can still produce quality when required.

Cristiano Ronaldo has 54 goal contributions for Al Nassr over the season, including six goals in eight appearances in the Asian Champions League. Ronaldo will be competing in his sixth European Championship this summer and the Portugal captain will more than likely be featuring in his last one.

The Portugal captain will be looking to retain the Golden Boot this summer, having just edged out Patrik Schick for the award at the last European Championships. Ronaldo is Portugal’s all-time top scorer with 128 goals in 206 games for the national side and the Portuguese legend finished second in the scoring charts for qualifying with ten goals. Ronaldo finished four goals behind Romelu Lukaku.

Goncalo Ramos is expected to contribute towards the national side this summer with odds of 33/1 for him to make a case to win the Golden Boot for Portugal.

Ramos is currently plying his trade at Paris Saint Germain and the French club have once again secured the Ligue 1 title for another year. The former Benfica striker has recorded 16 goal contributions in 37 appearances this season, whilst averaging a goal contribution every 116 minutes for the Ligue 1 Champions.

Ramos made his international debut in 2022 and has an impressive record for the national side. Since his debut, the Paris Saint Germain striker has eight goals in 11 games – including three goals in five games during qualifying. Ramos has had previous tournament experience having scored three goals in five games at the previous World Cup.

Despite his club suffering collectively as a team, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has been in fine form once again for his club and is sure to provide for his national side this summer with odds of 50/1 for him to win the Golden Boot this summer.

Fernandes has once again provided great numbers for his club this season, having scored ten goals and produced seven assists in 33 Premier League games. Bruno Fernandes also has 26 goal contributions across all competitions this season.

Since his international debut in 2017, the Manchester United midfielder has 20 goals in 64 games for the national side. In qualifying, Fernandes was in superb form having contributed 13 goal contributions for Portugal as they achieved a perfect record.

AC Milan forward Rafael Leao is an outsider for the Golden Boot this summer. The bookmakers place Leao @ 50/1 with a potential that the wide forward can perhaps be a surprise contender to win the prestigious award.

Rafael Leao has been in fine form for his club this season, having provided 16 goal contributions in 31 Serie A appearances this season. Leao also has 26 goal contributions in 44 games for the Rossoneri this season across all competitions.

Since his international debut in 2021, Leao has played 21 games for the national side, only scoring on four occasions. Two of his four goals did come at the Qatar World Cup in 2022 where he made five appearances.

Joao Felix could provide an outside chance of winning the Golden Boot this summer with odds of 66/1. The on-loan Atletico Madrid forward provides more flexibility for Robert Martinez this summer.

The former Chelsea striker has been on loan at Barcelona this season and has ten goal contributions in 27 La Liga appearances for the Catalan club. Felix has 16 goal contributions in 41 games across all competitions for his on-loan club.

Since his international debut in 2019, Felix has made 37 appearances and has scored seven goals for the national side. Joao Felix featured in the previous World Cup, where he recorded three goal contributions in four appearances. In the qualifiers for the tournament, Felix scored three and assisted once in eight appearances for Portugal.
