England’s Euro 2020 Squad Bet Specials - Goalkeepers

Latest News

There’s still a few months left of the 19/20 season, but there’s no doubt that Gareth Southgate is well underway with his thought process of who will be part of England’s Euro 2020 squad later this year. Sky Bet have released odds for who will be part of England’s initial 23-man squad for the tournament and we will be looking at some of the contenders who could be picked by Gareth Southgate and we’re going to be going through them position by position. Naturally, we’re starting with goalkeepers, and if you would like to back any of the players, we’ve provided the relevant link for each player. Please note that the odds are correct as of 12/01/20.

Jordan Pickford - 1/50

It’s almost a guarantee that not only will Everton’s Jordan Pickford be a part of the England squad, but he will also almost certainly be starting between the sticks for England. Since making his England debut in 2017, Pickford has made 24 appearances and has kept 10 clean sheets, including 4 clean sheets in 7 Euro 2020 qualifiers. Unless Pickford suffers an injury, he will certainly be in the squad, and the price of 1/50 from Sky Bet backs that up.

Jordan Pickford - 1/50

Nick Pope - 1/12

The second favourite to make the England squad is Burnley’s Nick Pope who has kept 26 clean sheets in 69 appearances for club and country since the 16/17 season. As it stands, Pope has only made 2 appearances for England, making his first appearance in a 2-0 win over Costa Rica and his second in England’s 4-0 win over Kosovo in their final Euro 2020 qualifier. It’s likely that Pope won’t be the starting goalkeeper during the Euros, but he will more than likely be on the bench.

Nick Pope - 1/12

Dean Henderson - 1/3

Third in line is Sheffield United’s Dean Henderson who is on loan from Manchester United. After his opening 21 Premier League games during the 19/20 season, Henderson kept 8 clean sheets, with no other Premier League goalkeeper keeping more. Henderson was England’s first-choice keeper during the UEFA Under-21 Championship last summer but has yet to make an appearance for the first team. But since 3 goalkeepers are selected for the 23-man squad, you’d imagine that Henderson will be further up the pecking order than the next 2 goalkeepers we’re going to mention, but you never know.

Dean Henderson - 1/3

Aaron Ramsdale - 9/4

In the eyes of Sky Bet, the fourth likely goalkeeper to be a part of England’s Euro 2020 squad is Bournemouth’s Aaron Ramsdale. Ramsdale may not have kept as many clean sheets as Pickford, Pope or Pickford, but after his opening 21 Premier League games for Bournemouth this season, only 4 goalkeepers have made more saves than Ramsdale, with him making an average of 3.3 saves every Premier League game.

Aaron Ramsdale - 9/4

Fraser Forster - 5/1

Since returning to Celtic on loan from Southampton, Fraser Forster has kept 11 clean sheets in 25 games, including in the Scottish League Cup final where he saved a penalty to help Celtic to a 1-0 victory over Rangers. Forster hasn’t been involved in the England squad since August of 2017, but in November of last year, he mentioned his desire to return to the squad. It’s incredibly unlikely that Forster will be the first choice goalkeeper for England, but he’s a good option to have should any of the other goalkeepers get injured.
