Karim Benzema topped the La Liga scoring charts last season for the first time ever in his career, after continuously falling short to Lionel Messi while the Argentine was at Barcelona in the 2020/21, 2019/20 and the 2018/19 seasons.
Benzema scored 27 goals in La Liga last campaign, the most the Frenchman has ever scored in Spain, and four more than his previous highest-scoring season in Spain’s top flight.
The Frenchman also finished top scorer in the Champions League this season. Benzema scored a hat-trick in the quarter-final first leg at Stamford Bridge and then again against Chelsea in the second leg as well as three goals across two legs in the semi-final against Manchester City on the way to winning the entire competition.
Benzema’s 27 goals in 32 games showed the Frenchman’s dominance over the Spanish league - something that’s even more likely to be repeated in the 2022/23 season.
