ITV’s coverage on Saturday kicks off with a handicap over a mile and a furlong at Sandown. The Joker should be capable of getting off the mark on these terms for the Jane Chapple-Hyam yard.
The three-year-old was only narrowly denied over a mile at Sandown last time, and looks well-suited to this slight step up in trip. Billy Loughnane is a positive booking, and this Zarak colt looks like a winner soon enough.
Secet Force looks on a workable mark in the opening race from York on Saturday. The four-year-old for trainer Adrian Paul Keatley returned to the flat with an eye-catching effort on stable debut last month.
The selection made excellent late headway, but was ultimately denied by a length. This step up in trip should suit his chances, having previously won on the flat over a mile and one on more testing ground in Ireland.
Chester is also covered on ITV this weekend. Masked Warrior looks like a decent chance from a low draw in the handicap over an extended seven furlongs.
The three-year-old was a fine winner over seven furlongs at Kempton last time, easily moving three lengths clear of the field. Is yet to win on the turf, but he showed plenty of ability on two starts at Newbury and Nottingham before being gelded to indicate that he will win on the grass sooner or later.
William Haggas could have a quickfire double on ITV this weekend, as Extremely Zain looks on a very lenient mark in the seven-furlong handicap from York.
The three-year-old has won on back-to-back starts under rules, and looks suited to the challenge on the turf last time out when smoothly winning at Newbury. He won with plenty in hand on that day, and he looks a standout chance to go in again this weekend.
Next up is the Listed Scurry Stakes, run over five furlongs. This should be a perfect opportunity for Words Of Truth to bounce back to winning form after finishing a close second behind Flying Comet on return at the start of the year in Meydan.
The drop back to five furlongs shouldn’t present many issues, and this three-time turf winner is already a winner at the stakes level, having won the Group Two Mill Reef last September.
The feature from York on Saturday is the Grand Cup Stakes, run over a mile and six. Tom Clover-trained Tabletalk could be set to fire on his third start after being gelded.
He was outclassed when fifth in the Group Three Sagaro Stakes at the start of May, but he ran some huge races in top events throughout last season, including when third over course and distance in the Group Three Silver Cup Stakes.
He could still be improving, and worth noting that he was a winner over course and distance in the Melrose Handicap in August 2024.
First-time headgear should sharpen up Raammee in the mile handicap from Sandown on Saturday, due off at 15:17.
The Roger Varian runner has won twice from three starts under rules, but he lacked focus when last seen finishing fourth behind Boyfriend over course and distance.
The application of headgear should refocus this son of Persian King, and he looks like a standout chance to bounce back to form.
William Buick and Charlie Appleby join forces with Man Of Vision in the Sprint Handicap at York on Saturday.
The three-year-old ran an excellent race when a close second over seven furlongs at the track last year, and was only narrowly denied when dropped to six furlongs at Newmarket on return, beaten a neck by Ten Carat Harry.
He should make amends for that defeat, despite being drawn wide.
