In a group of potential dark horses, Peru and Chile need to secure a good opening win before they take on the likes of World Champions and Copa America holders Argentina and Canada.

Peru qualified automatically for the Copa America as a CONMEBOL nation, but they have a lot of history with the competition. Peru have made 34 appearances since their debut in the tournament all the way back in 1927.

The first title for Peru came back in 1939 where they won all four games to lift the trophy on home soil. The second and last title for Peru came in 1975 where they beat Brazil to make the Final where they beat Colombia in a Play-off after a draw in two legs.

Chile also qualified automatically for the Copa Americas as a CONMEBOL nation. Chile have made the fourth most appearances in the competition with 41 appearances since the first rendition of the competition in 1916.

Like Peru, Chile have two titles so far, these coming in consecutive tournaments in 2015 and 2016. In 2015 Chile beat Uruguay and Peru in the knock-out rounds to make the Final where they beat Argentina on penalties to win as the host nation. In 2016, Chile beat Mexico and Colombia in the knock-outs and once again beat Argentina on penalties in the Final.

Peru and Chile have met 85 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in the 1935 Copa America. Chile have the better record in the fixture with 47 wins in comparison to Peru’s 24 wins, the other 14 games ending in a draw.

In the last five games in this fixture there have been three wins for Chile and two wins for Peru. All five of the last five games have seen just one team on the scoresheet with a low scoreline.

          Recent Form

In their last five games in all competitions, Peru have three wins and two draws.

In the World Cup Qualifiers, Peru took on Venezuela. Peru took the lead into halftime as Yoshimar Yotun found the back of the net in the 17th minute. However, early in the second half, Jefferson Savarino equalised for Venezuela as neither team could find another goal and had to settle for a 1 - 1 draw.

Peru were back to winning ways in an international friendly against Nicaragua. Joao Grimaldo opened the scoring in the second minute and Lapadula added another before the 15 minute mark. Nicaragua had just three shots on target as Peru picked up a 2 - 0 win.

Both Sergio Pena and Jesus Castillo got on the scoresheet for Peru in the first half and Piero Quispe added a third goal early in the second half. Jean Carlos Lopez got the Dominican Republic on the scoresheet but a late penalty from Paolo Guerrero secured the 4 - 1 win for Peru.

The visit from Paraguay saw Peru fail to register a single shot on target in seven attempts. Paraguay did manage four shots on target but also failed to find the back of the net in the 0 - 0 draw.

The last time out for Peru was against El Salvador. Edison Flores scored the only goal of the game in the 17th minute to give Peru the 1 - 0 win.

In their last five games in all competitions, Chile have two wins, one draw and two losses.

Both Chile and Paraguay saw red in their World Cup Qualifier, with Robert Rojas sent off on the stroke of halftime for Paraguay and Victor Mendez sent off for Chile in the 88th minute. Neither side managed to score either as the game finished in a 0 - 0 draw.

In another Qualifier, Chile took on Ecuador. Angel Mena scored the only goal of the game in the 21st minute to give Ecuador the 1 - 0 win, with Chile managing three shots on target only.

An international friendly saw Chile bounce back against Albania. Vargas opened the scoring in the 19th minute and in the second half Marcos Bolados and Victor Davila both found the back of the net to secure the 3 - 0 win for Chile.

Nunez gave Chile the early lead in the sixth minute against France but Youssouf Fofana and Randal Kolo Muani both scored to give France the lead at halftime. Olivier Giroud added a third in the second half and despite a late goal from Dario Osorio, France held on for the 3 - 2 win.

The last time out for Chile was against Paraguay. A brace from Davila and a goal from Vargas saw Chile pick up a 3 - 0 win even with less of the possession.

          Footy Accumulators Prediction

This isn’t a fixture that looks especially likely to promise goals, with a draw the most likely outcome. Brereton Diaz or Lapadula are likely to have two shots on target but are unlikely to convert them. Peru 0 - 0 Chile.
