Italy vs Turkey: Preview, Prediction & Betting Tips

Turkey make the trip to the Renato Dall’Ara to take on Italy in an international friendly on Tuesday. Both sides will be looking for a win to give them momentum going into the European Championships this Tuesday.

            Date: 04/06/2024

            Kick off time: 20:00

            Location: Renato Dall’Ara

Following a somewhat shaky qualifying campaign, Italy look to grab a big win over Turkey to put themselves on the front foot going into the tournament this summer.

Italy finished second in Group C in the qualifiers. Against the likes of England, Ukraine, North Macedonia and Malta, Italy picked up four wins, two draws and two losses, leaving them six points behind England and only qualifying directly via goal difference.

At the European Championships, Italy will compete in Group B against Spain, Croatia and Albania as The Azzurri look to pick up their third title and a back-to-back title after their triumph in 2021.

Turkey were one of the big shocks of the qualifying campaign after they finished top of Group D. Joined by Croatia, Wales, Armenia and Latvia, Turkey picked up five wins, two draws and one loss in eight games, leaving them on 17 points, just one point above Croatia.

For the main tournament this summer, Turkey find themselves in Group F alongside Georgia, Portugal and the Czech Republic. This is Turkey’s sixth appearance in the competition as they look to reach at least the Semi Finals like they did back in 2008.

Italy and Turkey have met 13 times in their histories, with the first meeting coming back in the 1962 European Championships. Italy have the better record in the fixture with ten wins in comparison to Turkey who have yet to beat Italy, with the other three games ending in a draw.

The last five games in this fixture have seen three wins for Italy and two draws. However, this fixture does usually see both sides on the scoresheet, with six of the last seven games seeing both sides scoring.

            Recent Form

In their last five games in all competitions, Italy have three wins, one draw and one loss.

The first trip back to Wembley after their win in the Euros Final was one to forget for Italy. Scamacca opened the scoring for Italy in the 15th minute but a penalty from Harry Kane made it level before halftime. Marcus Rashford put England ahead before the hour mark and another goal from Kane wrapped up a 3 - 1 win for England.

Italy bounced back in fashionable style against North Macedonia. A goal from Matteo Darmian and a brace from Chiesa gave Italy the 3 - 0 lead at halftime. A brace from Jani Atanasov made it 3 - 2 with 15 minutes to go, but late goals from Giacomo Raspadori and Stephan El Shaarawy gave Italy the 5 - 2 win.

The last game of the Euros qualifiers saw Italy take on rivals for the final spot in the competition, Ukraine. Italy had just two shots on target out of 17 attempts and failed to convert either of them. Ukraine also failed to find the back of the net as both sides settled for a 0 - 0 draw.

The first international friendly of March’s break saw Italy host Venezuela. Mateo Retegui opened the scoring in the 40th minute but Darwin Machis equalised just minutes later to make it level at the halftime whistle. Ten minutes to go Retegui scored his second goal of the night to give Italy the 2 - 1 win.

The last time out for Italy was against Ecuador in another friendly. Lorenzo Pellegrini opened the scoring in the third minute and Barella found the back of the net in added time to secure a 2 - 0 win for Italy.

In their last five games in all competitions, Turkey have two wins, one draw and two losses.

The trip to Croatia saw Turkey pick up a big win over a footballing powerhouse in recent years. Baris Alper Yilmaz scored the only goal of the game in the 30th minute to give Turkey the 1 - 0 win.

Turkey picked up another win, this time at home against Latvia. After a goalless first half, Akgun opened the scoring for Turkey just before the hour mark and in the last ten minutes Tosun grabbed a brace and was joined on the scoresheet by Muhammed Kerem Akturkoglu in a 4 - 0 win for Turkey.

The last game in the qualifiers saw Turkey in Wales. Neco Williams gave Wales the lead in the seventh minute but a penalty from Yusuf Yazici in the second half rescued a 1 - 1 draw for Turkey.

The first friendly in March saw Turkey take on Hungary. Despite having more of the possession and eight more shots, Turkey failed to find the back of the net and a penalty from Dominik Szoboszlai just after halftime gave Hungary the 1 - 0 win.

The most recent outing for Turkey was against Austria. Xaver Schlager gave Austria the early lead in the second minute but a penalty from Calhanoglu made it level before the half hour mark. However, a hat-trick from Michael Gregortisch, a penalty from Christoph Baumgartner and a goal from Maxmilian Entrup gave Austria the 6 - 1 win.

            Footy Accumulators Prediction

Despite Turkey’s strong showing in the qualifiers, they’re unlikely to be a match for Italy this week, with either Chiesa or Scamacca a good shout to be on the scoresheet. Italy 3 - 0 Turkey.
