Low Odds, High Odds: UCL Quarter-Finals - 6/4/22

On Wednesday night, Chelsea and Real Madrid go head to head at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League quarter-finals first leg.

These two sides met in the semi-finals of last year’s competition when Thomas Tuchel’s men ran out as 3-1 aggregate winners on their way to lifting the trophy in Porto at the expense of Manchester City.

When they last met at Stamford Bridge, each team had five shots on target each across the 90 minutes as goals by Timo Werner and Mason Mount sealed a famous win for the Blues. Two or more shots on target for each team in each half is currently priced at 6/1 to happen.

Both Chelsea and Real Madrid come into this game with four wins from their last five outings, but, in the midst of these victories, have had unpredictable defeats, as the Blues were hammered 4-1 at home to Brentford on the weekend despite taking the lead in the match, whilst Real were humbled 4-0 at home to Barcelona in El Classico.

With neither sides’ defence covering themselves in glory, as well as the quality of each sides’ attacks, the possibility of both teams scoring in each half is certainly not out of the question.

This is expected to be a fairly even encounter. At the weekend, Chelsea had 12 corners to Brentford’s seven, showing that the statistic in question isn’t out of the realms of possibility, whilst in the Champions League, referees tend to be rather disciplinarian when it comes to giving fouls and cards.

Villarreal hosts Bayern Munich at Estadio de la Cerámica in the first leg of Wednesday night’s other Champions League quarter-finals match.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side come into this match as firm favourites although Villarreal will be desperate to cause another upset after defeating Juventus 3-0 at the Juventus Stadium in the Round of 16.

A player to look out for is Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, as the 33-year-old former Borussia Dortmund man is currently the Champions League’s top scorer with 12 goals in eight matches, averaging a goal every 58 minutes.

The Pole has had 25 shots in his eight appearances in this season’s competition, with an accuracy of 68%. In the last round, the Pole scored a hat-trick inside 23 minutes against Red Bull Salzburg at the Allianz Arena.

As mentioned above, Lewandowski is having a superb Champions League campaign, scoring 12 in eight matches. In all competitions, the Polish striker has fired in 43 times, creating four assists in the process.

Meanwhile, his German counterpart Thomas Muller has scored 11 goals this season across all competitions, whilst staggeringly, creating 19 assists in 35 matches.

Both of these players scored a combined tally of five goals against RB Salzburg in the last round, whilst Lewandowski recorded an assist. Lewandowski to assist Muller and Muller to assist Lewandowski is priced at 66/1 to happen on Wednesday.
