Next Permanent Rochdale Manager Odds

Rochdale are on the lookout for a new manager following the sacking of Robbie Stockdale earlier this month following a winless start to the League Two season.

The 42-year-old could only manage an 18th place finish last season following Dale’s relegation from League One under the management of Brian Barry-Murphy who quickly jumped ship to become Manchester City’s EDS manager.

Here we take a look at all of the managerial candidates to be Rochdale's next permanent manager.

David Artell Odds: 6/4

Former Crewe Alexandra manager David Artell is the bookmakers’ favourite to be Rochdale’s next manager.

The 41-year-old is without a club following his departure from Gresty Road last season upon Alexandra’s relegation, with that role being his only managerial job to date, having held that role for five years.

During his time as Crewe manager, Artell oversaw their promotion to League One via a second-place finish in League Two during the 2019/20 season. The former Rotherham United defender managed Alexandra 274 times, winning 100 matches and drawing 51, seeing him have a win percentage of £36.5%.

Graham Alexander Odds: 2/1

Graham Alexander is reportedly also on the list of managerial candidates that the Spotland club are considering, as the 50-year-old is currently without a job.

The former Preston North End and Burnley player left Motherwell last month having seen his side being knocked out of Europa Conference League qualifying by Sligo Rovers.

Alexander has a good CV despite this, having guided the likes of Fleetwood Town to promotion from League Two in 2013/14, as well winning the National League play-offs with Salford City in 2018/19.

The 50-year-old typically has a history of overachieving and could be a good fit for a Rochdale side that lies at the bottom of League Two.

Chris Beech Odds: 8/1

Former Rochdale assistant manager Chris Beech has also been linked with the managerial vacancy at Spotland.

Beech served as assistant manager between 2013 and 2019 before taking the managerial reigns at Carlisle United where he showed decent credentials on a very limited budget.

Despite being sacked in October 2021, the 47-year-old had overseen his side finish in 18th place during the 2019/20 season which was curtailed after 37 matches.

Keith Hill Odds: 10/1

The final manager on this list is Keith Hill, who goes down as a Dale legend having managed them 570 times across two managerial spells at Spotland.

Hill notably managed to earn promotion from League Two with Rochdale on two separate occasions, doing so in both 2009/10 and 2013/14 via third-place finishes.

The 53-year-old is currently the manager of National League side Scunthorpe United, who he was unable to save from relegation from League Two last season, and would likely be keen on another return to Rochdale.
