Erling Haaland Summer Transfer Odds

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland has been under a lot of transfer speculation, despite only moving to the Bundesliga side in January 2020 for €20m from Austrian Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg.

The Norwegian has scored 38 goals in 40 matches since moving to the Signal Iduna Park, following an impressive 12-month stint in Austria with Salzburg that also saw him score 29 goals in 27 Austrian Bundesliga appearances. The likes of Manchester City and Manchester United are the early favourites to sign the 20-year-old.

Manchester City: 4/1

Manchester City are the favourites, as it is well documented that the Citizens are looking for a new striker with Sergio Aguero’s contract set to expire in the summer. Despite usually avoiding clients under Mino Raiola, they do have connections with the Dortmund man, as his dad Alfe-Inge played for the Blues between the years of 2000 and 2003.

Haaland would be the ideal striker for City, as they need a clinical poacher who can hold up the ball well, due to them predominantly playing a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation with two inside forwards either side of the striker.

Manchester United: 6/1

Following in closely are Manchester United, who also have connections with the Dortmund man, as United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer managed Haaland at Norwegian side Molde, who he played for prior his move to Salzburg.

United signed Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani last summer, but coincidentally only gave the former PSG man a one-year deal with a club option to extend it, is this coincidental? Well, it is no secret that Solskjaer wants to manage Haaland again, and with the 20-year-old’s release clause becoming active in 2022, this summer might be the best chance to grab the Dortmund man, as there will naturally be less competition in the current climate financial climate, as teams won’t want to risk bidding over the odds, as his release clause stands at €75m, a bargain in modern-day football standards.

Haaland has the odds of 6/1 to move to United.

Juventus: 10/1

Italian giants Juventus are next on the list, as they are looking to completely revamp their squad under manager Andrea Pirlo. Having let go of the likes of Sami Khedira, Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuain in the last 12 months, they have freed up a lot of money on their wage books.

Juve manager Pirlo often opts to play two strikers up-front, mainly in a 4-2-2-2 formation of late, with the likes of Alvaro Morata partnering Cristiano Ronaldo in attack, however, in the Old Lady’s squad they are short of strikers for this formation, as they tend to use the likes of Swedish winger Dejan Kulusevski there.

Paulo Dybala has also been out of favour this season, having started just six games of the 11 that he has played in the Serie A, prior to suffering a Medial Collateral Ligament injury against Sassuolo in early January.

Norwegian striker Haaland is priced at 10/1 for a move to Turin.

Real Madrid: 10/1

Real Madrid are also at the same odds as Juventus, as they are still yet to fill the void that Ronaldo left at the Santiago Bernabeu when he left for Juve in the summer of 2018.

Los Blancos signed Mariano when the Portuguese striker left the club, of which the Dominican Republic international has barely had a look in since he returned to the club from Lyon in the summer of 2018, as he has played just 264 minutes of league football in the last one and a half seasons.

With the likes of Karim Benzema being 33-years-old, and previously being used as a centre forward rather than a striker in Ronaldo’s time at Real, a move for Haaland could ease the reliance on the Frenchman’s goals, as the former Lyon man has scored 14 goals in 25 matches this season, nine more than second top scorer Casimero.

Haaland has the odds of 10/1 to go to Real this summer.

Barcelona: 12/1

Barcelona are the second Spanish club on this list, as Ronald Koeman looks to rebuild the club that he used to play for.

The Camp Nou side let Luis Suarez go to La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid last season which looks to have been a big mistake, as the Uruguayan is the league’s top scorer with 16 goals in 17 games, three more than Lionel Messi having played two fewer matches.

Barca currently uses a 4-3-3 formation, however, their balance between their attack and defence isn’t quite right, hence why they are eight points behind Atletico in La Liga, who have a game in hand on the Catalonian club. The signing of the Norwegian could allow Barca to revert to a 4-2-3-1 formation, which could see them use both Frenkie De Jong and Sergio Busquets as defensive midfielders, with Messi playing as an attacking midfielder.

However, if rumours are believed to be true, Haaland could end up as the main striker at the Camp Nou if Messi is to leave the club at the end of the current campaign.

The Norwegian striker is priced at 12/1 for a move to the Nou Camp.

Liverpool 16/1

Finally, on this list are Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool. The Premier League champions have also been linked to Norwegian striker Haaland, as they look to freshen up their squad with the likes of Roberto Firmino’s inconsistent performances wearing thin on the Anfield faithful’s patience.

Brazilian international Firmino is 29-years-old and has scored 27 goals in the last two and a half Premier League seasons he has played. To put this into perspective, the likes of Mohamed Salah has scored 56, whilst Sadio Mane has hit the back of the net 47 times in the same period of time.

Diogo Jota has also come in and started brightly when he has played instead of the Brazilian, as he has scored five goals in his first nine Premier League appearances for the Merseyside club since joining from Wolves last summer, which has further increased the pressure on the under-performing Brazilian.

With the goalscoring numbers that Haaland generates, any club with the stature that Liverpool have built themselves in recent years would be interested in the Norwegian.

Liverpool are priced at 16/1 to sign Haaland this summer.
