Manchester City: West Ham (A), Bournemouth (H) & Newcastle (A)

After winning the title in dramatic fashion last season, City have further reinforced their squad, spending in excess of £100m to bring in Erling Haaland, Julian Alvarez and Kalvin Phillips.

City ended the 2021/22 campaign on a high, winning six of their last seven games, and they will hope to start this season in the same vein.

Manchester City's opening fixture of the season is away at the London Stadium against West Ham. Man City have won 12 of the last 15 encounters between the clubs and have not lost against the Hammers in the Premier League since September 2015.

David Moyes’ side finished the previous season poorly, only managing one win in their last seven. The form at the back end of last season suggests that Man City are likely to have the upper hand in this outing.

Man City’s first fixture at the Etihad is against the newly promoted Bournemouth. Since the first meeting of these two clubs in 1987, City are yet to lose to Bournemouth, winning 15 of 17 encounters.

With a seemingly weak squad and low budget, Bournemouth are odds on favourites to be relegated at 2/3. Bournemouth would have to pull off one of the biggest ever Premier League upsets to see anything but defeat here.

In their third fixture of the campaign, City travel to Newcastle. Manchester City have won all of the past five meetings in the Premier League against Newcastle scoring 22 goals in the process.

Despite the capital provided by Newcastle's new owners, the club has failed to add significant strength to their attack this summer. It will be a tough task for the Magpies to come away with any points here due to the lack of attacking quality and strength of City's defence.

Liverpool: Fulham (A), Crystal Palace (H) & Man Utd (A)

Liverpool are trying to bounce back from their disappointments at the end of last season. From an unprecedented quadruple looking on the cards, the reds had to settle with a domestic double.

Jurgen Klopp has looked to youth this summer, signing Darwin Nunez for a club-record fee of £85 million. Liverpool have also added the teenagers Fabio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsey to their squad, with the hopes of winning a second Premier League title.

Liverpool's first game of the season comes away against the Championship victors Fulham. In the past eight meetings between the two sides, Liverpool have won six.

This transfer window, Fulham lost their influential playmaker Fabio Carvalho to Liverpool. With 18 goal contributions in the Championship last season, he is bound to be a big loss for the Cottagers and an influential addition for Klopp in the future. Liverpool's squad, with the likes of Henderson and van Dijk, surely has too much experience for there to be any opening day blunders.

The first game of the season at Anfield is against Crystal Palace. Liverpool have won every opening home game of the Premier League season since drawing to Manchester City in 2012.

Despite Crystal Palace’s mid-table consistency since they were promoted in 2013, Liverpool have won each of the past 10 premier league meetings. With the help of the Anfield faithful, a 10-game winning run will be expected to become 11.

Liverpool's third fixture of the season is the increasingly easy away day to Old Trafford. Who can forget the images of fans streaming out of the stands as Liverpool scored their fifth goal at Old Trafford last season.

With this being an intense rivalry, this will perhaps provide a stern test for both clubs as form tends to go out the window, with United determined to avenge last season’s humiliating 5-0 and 4-0 defeats, although it could be a good time to play United for the Reds, as the Old Trafford club will ultimately still be putting in groundwork under Erik ten Hag.

United fans may be encouraged by the 4-0 club-friendly win against Liverpool in Bangkok earlier this summer. However, pre-season friendlies are rarely a valid indicator for the season ahead and often end in bizarre results, such as Walsall’s 2-0 win against Ajax in 2018, who were notably under the leadership of ten Hag.

Tottenham Hotspur: Southampton (H), Chelsea (A) & Wolves (H)

After making some key additions to their squad, Antonio Conte is looking to build on Tottenham's fourth-place finish last season.

Pre-season has already proven to be gruelling for the players during the team’s trip to South Korea. Conte has a track record of winning the first game of a campaign, winning the past three, showing that the team's pre-season work does provide results.

Tottenham open their season at home to Southampton. In recent fixtures, Southampton have struggled to get any points away at Spurs, with Tottenham winning five of the last six encounters at home.

With the renewed optimism surrounding this Spurs squad, the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium looks a daunting prospect for any team to travel to this season.

The first away day of Tottenham’s season is a London derby at Stamford Bridge. In recent fixtures, a lack of goals has hampered Tottenham in this fixture. However, there will be renewed optimism ahead of this tie, due to the additions of Richarlison and Ivan Perisic to Tottenham's attacking options.

Richarlison is a proven Premier League goalscorer, scoring 48 goals in 172 Premier League appearances. Perisic is an experienced veteran with 546 career appearances who may prove to be an important leader in Spurs’ dressing room. With their new look attacking line, Tottenham's fortunes in this fixture may change this season.

Tottenham's third game of the season is at home to Wolves. Tottenham have won three of the last four games across all competitions against Wolves.

Spurs have won just once at home to Wolves since the Molineux club were re-promoted to the top-flight under Nuno Espirito Santo back in 2017/18. Their sole home league victory against Wanderers since then came back in May 2021 as Harry Kane and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg both got on the scoresheet.

With one of their strongest squads in recent memory, Tottenham will approach this fixture with only a win in mind.
