Manchester City is the early frontrunner for the Premier League next season. Pep Guardiola's side aims to become the first side in English Football to achieve five Premier League titles consecutively. The Citizens made history last season by claiming their fourth Premier League title in a row, which was accompanied the season prior by the Treble—becoming the first side to achieve this feat since Manchester United in 1999.
In the two seasons prior, Manchester City were pushed by a determined Arsenal side who, last season, took Pep Guardiola's side to the final day of the season. The unfortunate factor for anyone chasing this Manchester City side is that you have to leave no margin for error when chasing an unstoppable machine. Manchester City has only made one major signing in the transfer market, although there are doubts over Ederson heading into the next season. City Football Group's Estac Troyes signed Savio as the Brazilian looks to compete in the wide areas alongside Jeremy Doku and Jack Grealish.
Manchester City will again look to the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland next season. Despite an injury-hit campaign last season, De Bruyne and Haaland were once again pivotal to their side clinching the title ahead of Arsenal. Haaland started 29 games last season and managed to win the Golden Boot with an impressive 27 goals last season. De Bruyne returned from a lengthy injury the previous season away at Newcastle United and immediately brought a goal and an assist to the table for his side. The Belgian had started 15 games last season and provided 14 goal contributions.
Arsenal - 2nd Place
Once again, Arsenal is just missing out on the Premier League title next season, according to our predictions. The Gunners' rise since Mikel Arteta took over the helm at the Emirates has been astonishing. Last season, Arsenal was almost faultless in its attempts to wrestle the Premier League title away from the hands of Manchester City, although ultimately, it fell short. Manchester City won the league title by two points, and looking back, the results against Aston Villa, where they were beaten 2-0, would be their undoing against a winning machine on the blue side of Manchester.
Arsenal has looked to strengthen this window, with reportedly personal terms agreed for an impending transfer of Riccardo Califiori, who impressed at Bologna last season. The issue that should be addressed for Arsenal is their lack of vocal presence up front to secure the goals necessary to win the Premier League. Arsenal's striking option last season, Kai Havertz, was rewarded in some aspects, with the German having his best individual season in the Premier League. However, their primary challengers, Manchester City, have someone in Erling Haaland who will guarantee you a Premier League title.
Manchester United - 3rd Place
Over the summer, it's been a turbulent few months at Old Trafford, with the ever-looming question surrounding Erik Ten Hag's future making weekly rounds across the news circuit. Last season, Manchester United recorded their worst-ever Premier League finish by finishing eighth and faced the prospect of no European Football under the new INEOS regime. Manchester United recovered their season spectacularly by beating Manchester City in the FA Cup final to secure Europa League football back at Old Trafford.
Since that day in May, wheels have been set in motion behind the scenes, with United strengthening a much-depleted recruitment department. The appointments of Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox have allowed the club to operate more prudently for the first time since 2013.
Manchester United have already been active in the transfer market, securing the signature of highly-rated talent Leny Yoro from Lille - amidst speculation from Real Madrid. Joshua Zirkzee will add a spark in the attacking areas after the Dutch international won Serie A Young Player of the Year with his performances from Bologna. The medical department is the one remaining concern in Manchester United from last season.
The squad was heaped with injuries last season, which harmed a team that had finished third the previous season with a largely intact squad. Marcus Rashford's form will be decisive for the Red Devils this season. Rashford will need to rediscover the form that gave the English international a 30-goal haul in 22/23, not the form from last season, which diminished his chances for the European Championship squad.
Liverpool - 4th Place
For the first time since November 2015, Liverpool will be without the brilliant guidance of Jurgen Klopp. The former Borussia Dortmund manager announced his departure from Anfield after a hugely successful spell at the club, which saw Liverpool lift their first English League title since 1990. Like many clubs thus far, Liverpool has been largely inactive in the transfer market.
One of the main areas in which Liverpool could improve and has actively looked at in the transfer market is the need for a holding midfielder. Wataru Endo was brought in from Stuttgart last season, although many Liverpool fans feel another midfield reinforcement is needed.
Mohamed Salah remains Liverpool's attacking threat. The Egyptian has been purely world-class since he arrived in 2017 from Roma, and last season, he contributed 28 goals in the Premier League from 32 appearances—which included international duty for Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations.
A managerial appointment can make all the difference in a club's mentality. Roy Hodgson ensured Crystal Palace survived relegation in 2022/23, although a change of manager was needed the following season. Crystal Palace struck gold with the appointment of Oliver Glasner. Glasner had won the UEFA Europa League with Frankfurt in 2022 and was a seemingly perfect match for Selhurst Park. Glasner achieved a 53.85% win ratio during his time at Crystal Palace, and his side ended the season undefeated in their last five games.
Crystal Palace suffered a blow in the transfer window following Michael Olise's departure to Bayern Munich. However, they have retained the services of Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi, who both impressed for England on International duty. Glasner has brought in fresh faces, with Chadi Riad and Daichi Kamada aiming to bolster the squad. Jean-Phillipe Mateta will provide the goals again after the Frenchman recorded his best-ever season tally with 16 goals from 35 games last campaign.
Leicester City
According to the latest odds on SkyBet, Leicester City is the favourite for relegation. The surrounding issue for Leicester City is the ever-looming points deduction for Profit and Sustainability rules, which could effectively damage their season before it even begins. If Leicester City were to breach these rules, they would likely be condemned to relegation, barring a miraculous recovery. On the pitch, Leicester City have appointed Steve Cooper, formerly of Nottingham Forest, to replace outgoing manager Enzo Maresca. Maresca won the Championship with Leicester City last season but opted to leave in favour of a move to Chelsea. His replacement, Steve Cooper, has experience at this level, guiding Nottingham Forest to survival in 2022/23. The Foxes lost Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea this summer. The club purchased Issahaku Fatawu permanently following his successful loan spell last season. Atalanta centre-back Caleb Okoli and Bobby De Cordova-Reid, recently released from Fulham, have also been brought in.
Ipswich Town
Ipswich Town are back in the Premier League after a 22-year absence from the top flight of English Football. Much intrigue will surround this Ipswich Town side, who achieved back-to-back promotions under talented manager Kieran McKenna. McKenna was very much in speculation, with constant links to Chelsea and Manchester United. The Tractor boys have been awarded a mouthwatering fixture facing Arne Slot's Liverpool side at lunchtime on Saturday, 17th August. Ipswich Town's squad, which saw them achieve the unprecedented promotion last season, had seven players Kieran McKenna used in the League One winning campaign. They would need reinforcements to stand a fight next season, and they've certainly done that. After his successful loan spell from Chelsea, the club has decided to make Omari Hutchinson a permanent fixture. Ipswich Town have also brought Ben Johnson from West Ham United, Arjanet Muric from Burnley, Liam Delap from Manchester City, and highly-rated Championship centre-back Jacob Greaves from Hull City.
Southampton
Unfortunately, the three promoted sides can't be overlooked in the relegation odds, although some could defy the odds more than others. However, Southampton could survive if they start the season particularly well. Russell Martin guided Southampton back to the top flight at the first time of asking by beating Leeds United in the play-off final at Wembley.
Southampton moved quickly and astutely into the transfer market this summer by capturing youth and experience in their squad. The Saints have brought former club stalwart Adam Lallana back to the club, alongside Premier League experienced full-back Charlie Taylor on a free from Burnley. Ronnie Edwards finally made his long-awaited Premier League move from Peterborough United, and the club made the signings of Flynn Downes and Taylor-Harwood Bellis permanent. Adam Armstrong will be responsible for leading the line following the departure of Che Adams to Torino. Armstrong had 37 goal contributions last season in the Championship, although in the Premier League, he has yet to achieve more than five in both campaigns he has played in.
