WATCH: Blackburn player bizarrely picks up ball in attempt to halt Bournemouth attack

Latest News

Blackburn Rovers defender hoped to take one for the team

A lot of bookmakers expected Blackburn Rovers to find themselves torn to shreds away to Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night but they were impressive in fighting a two-goal deficit to reach ninety-minutes with a 2-2 scoreline. The only issue then was trying to make it through stoppage time, where key Cherries striker duo Callum Wilson and Josh King were given an easy chance to secure the win. They were expected to score into a practically open net before defender Derrick Williams cancelled out their chance of embarrassing Rovers by picking up the ball.

More bizarrely, Derrick Williams throws the ball away immediately after and appears to be shocked by the referee opting to send him off for the clear foul. As much as his efforts were admirable in attempting to save his team from an almost certain defeat, his foul led to a free-kick, which led to a corner, which led to the winner for Bournemouth, but it's the thought that counts...
