It was a bitter-sweet night for Jermain Defoe on Wednesday, as he made his debut for Scottish Premiership side Rangers.
Defoe was handed a full debut in attack alongside Alfredo Morelos, while fellow new signing Steven Davis was also put in the starting lineup as they looked to build on the huge 1-0 victory over Celtic last time out.
However, Steven Gerrard’s side endured a tough night at the office, as they dropped down to third in the league table after losing 2-1 at Kilmarnock, who in turn leapfrogged them into second place and below Celtic by just a point as they continue to punch well above their weight.
Goals from Eamonn Brophy and Rangers-bound Jordan Jones wrapped up the victory for Steve Clarke’s men, who came from behind to secure the three points.
They were forced to come back after Defoe took just 12 minutes to open his account for the Gers with a trademark poacher’s finish early in the first half, though he ended up on the losing side on his Scottish debut.
Rangers will now look to bounce back against Livingston on Sunday, with the team continuing to struggle away from home.
Watch below as Defoe opens his account for his new side, as he scored once again on a debut for a club.
