The Champions League group stage drew to its conclusion last night and one of the games of the competition so far came at the Johan Cruyff Arena - where Ajax and Bayern Munich played out a thrilling 3-3 draw. It was a rollercoaster of a game where the lead changed hands on 3 occasions but it was overshadowed by the absolutely horrific dismissal of Bayern forward Thomas Muller,. The Germany international stunned the spectators with a high kick which wiped out defender Nicolas Tagliafico.
The Argentine was left in a heap on the floor after Muller's Cantona-esque kick, which resulted in the Ajax man requiring heavy treatment. After going down he had to have some staples in the back of his head which shows the brutal extent of Muller's challenge so it'll come as no surprise to you to hear he was given an instant dismissal.
It looked like Tagliafico wouldn't be able to continue after the lengthy stoppage but he managed to play on and score a 90th minute equaliser to get Ajax a point and round off a crazy game. But it wasn't enough for the Eredivise side to leapfrog Bayern into top spot, meaning that they remain in second but qualify for the round of 16.
