It's been a traumatic season to say the least for everyone involved with Manchester United and one man in particular who's in the spotlight is Jose Mourinho. The 55 year-old has never lasted longer than 3 seasons at any of the clubs he's managed previously and he has a job on his hands breaking that curse at Old Trafford, with his United side in complete disarray at the moment. Sunday's crushing 3-1 defeat to rivals Liverpool put them a massive 19 points behind the leaders after just 17 games, meaning that they need to turn things around ASAP if he's to save himself.
The remit going into the season was surely to try and challenge for the title but their lack of consistency and inability to keep clean sheets (just 2 all season in the PL) puts them down in 6th position, just a point above Wolves and 2 ahead of Watford & West Ham. The defeat on Sunday at Anfield would've hurt him just as much as the fans, with it being the first time he's lost there since 2007 and he made some interesting comments post match to Sky Sports' Geoff Shreeves regarding where United will end the season.
Asked whether he could "fix" United after their dreadful start, Mourinho claimed that 4th position in particular is a realistic aim and it's something that shows just how times have changed at the club in recent times. These are things that fans of the Red Devils won't really want to hear but Mourinho needs a massive 2nd half of the campaign to save himself.
