Southampton vs Grimsby Prediction, Tips & Stats

Southampton and Grimsby will meet this weekend in the FA Cup as the League Two side look to spring an upset and march on into the quarter-finals and become one of the lowest-ranked sides to make it that far in the past decade.

Not just could Grimsby jump into rare territory for a side from the fourth tier, Paul Hurst's side are also in action in the FA Cup fifth round for the first time in 27 years. Hurst's side are still 16th in League Two and only have two league wins in the past few games for during February, although they did stun Championship side Luton Town in the FA Cup three weeks ago. Harry Clifton scored after just nine minutes that day, as Danilo Orsi bagged after 28 minutes. Danny Armos also scored in the first half of a 3-0 win.

As for Southampton, they remain in last place after losing in a must-not-lose battle with fellow strugglers Leeds United. The Saints are now four behind Leeds in the table in 17th with Southampton as low as they've ever been in a Premier League season after 24 games.

1+ shot on target each team in each half in 90mins is boosted to 6/5 in this game, while James Ward-Prowse 2+ shots on target in 90mins is up at 13/8 as well in this game - Ward-Prowse has hit the target twice in his last 2 games and is also 7/2 to score from outside the area in 90 minutes.

          Southampton team news

Bazunu has been in goal for Southampton for most of this season but 40-year-old Willy Caballero likely plays here for them in goal. Kyle Walker-Peters missed the last outing for the club and he will likely play here. Adam Armstrong also missed the last outing and should feature here alongside Moussa Djenepo and Carlos Alcaraz. Ibrahima Diallo came off the bench against Leeds United and may start here. Theo Walcott could get his first start in a while now that he has returned to the squad from injury.

Juan Larios is out injured until next month alongside Mohamed Salisu, while Che Adams faces a late fitness test but likely doesn't make it back in time here. Mislav Orsic is not set to play here and won't return until at least the weekend. Alex McCarthy's injury forces Caballero in goal. Valentino Livramento is out for a few more weeks.

          Grimsby team news

Grimsby will hope to not make too many changes to the side that got a commendable draw against the League Two leaders last weekend. Bryn Morris will drop out of the side once. Mikey O'Neill and Tom Dickson-Peters should get minutes here. Owen Gallacher and Danilo Orsi should get minutes here as well. Ryan Taylor may come into the side at some stage as well.
