One of the biggest fixtures in the League One calendar takes place on Saturday, as third-place Wrexham hosts fifth-place Stockport County at the Racecourse Ground.
Date: 22/03/2025
Location: Racecourse Ground
Time: 3pm
The last time these two sides met, Stockport ran out as 1-0 victors at Edgeley Park on 16th November as Louie Barry scored the only goal of the game. However, when these two sides met at the Racecourse Ground last season, Wrexham took all three points via a 2-1 comeback win as Ollie Palmer and Andy Cannon both got on the scoresheet after Connor Lemonheigh-Evans had given Stockport the lead.
Wrexham are having a good season considering that this is their first season back in League One, as they are level on points with second-place Wycombe Wanderers on 71 points (won 21, drawn 8, lost 8), meaning that they are firmly in contention for automatic promotion.
In terms of domestic cups, Phil Parkinson’s side were recently knocked out of the EFL Trophy at the semi-finals on penalties by Peterborough United, while in the EFL Cup and FA Cup, they failed to make an impact, as they were beaten 1-0 by Harrogate Town, as well as 4-2 at Sheffield United in the EFL Cup.
Stockport County are also having a fantastic season, as like Wrexham, they plied their trade in League Two last campaign. County are just six points off the automatic promotion places, meaning that a win here could significantly enhance their chances of making it back-to-back promotions.
Dave Challinor’s men will be disappointed to have exited the EFL Trophy in the Round of 32 at home to Bradford City, however, they did make a good go of the FA Cup itself, reaching the Third Round of that competition, having progressed past Forest Green Rovers (2-1) and Brackley Town (3-1) before suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
