Morecambe will be searching for another win after a narrow midweek victory gave them great hope of moving further away from the drop zone once more with the club set to head on the road to Highbury with Fleetwood Town also winning on Tuesday evening.
It's been a very topsy-turvy season for Morecambe in 2022/23. The club have been bottom of the table at times in the campaign and saw themselves rocket to as high as 14th at times as well. Now, however, after struggles in 2023, they are back down in 20th. Worse yet, they've also played more games than most around them and only sit above the bottom three by two points.
Their goals difference is slightly superior on the likes of MK Dons and Cambridge United, but at the end of it all, their torrid record of 52 goals let in is going to be a concern heading into every game. On the other hand, the Shrimps have actually only scored two goals less than Fleetwood in 13th.
Derek Adams' side narrowly defeated Port Vale 1-0 at the Mazuma Stadium on Tuesday. This saw Adam Mayor get another goal for the season, but it does still mean that Morecambe have won just seven games and lost 15 times too with 10 other draws - this is fewer goals than MK Dons and Cambridge in the relegation zone. In fact, only Forest Green Rovers have won fewer games in League One so far.
As for Fleetwood, they squeezed past Morecambe's fellow relegation fighters on Tuesday night, Cambridge. Shaun Rooney netted in the final two minutes of regular time in that game and he is now the club's top scorer this season once more. It has moved Scott Brown's men up into 13th and in the best spot they've been this season. In fact, with them now 10 clear of the bottom three, there is great hope circling the club in terms of avoiding the drop.
