Stevenage are aiming to make it three wins from three at the start of the 2023/24 season with a fantastic first two results that saw it win on the road and knock out Watford in the EFL Cup ahead of Shrewsbury Town's visit.
Stevenage defeated Northampton Town last weekend after a goal late on from defender Carl Piergianni. Northampton did finish above Stevenage last season in the race to get out of League Two, but the latter has had the latest laugh with an opening day victory.
Steve Evans' side played host to Watford during the week in the EFL Cup, as Josh March equalised in the first half after going a goal down early on. Evans' men ran out winners on penalties to make it into the second round.
As for Shrewsbury, they relied on the brilliance of Ryam Bowman once again in their opening game against Cheltenham Town, as his finish in the second half earned all three points in a 1-0 home win. The club then headed to Elland Road for a EFL Cup clash with Leeds United, and despite taking the lead through Taylor Perry, the club fel to a 2-1 loss in the end.
