On Saturday, Mk Dons travel to the Crown Ground, where they will face Accrington Stanley. Both sides were relegated from League One last season and the hosts haven’t won against the Dons since 2020.
Accrington
The ‘Owd Reds form has picked up in recent weeks and after 13 matches, they sit in ninth place. Accrington Stanley’s home form has been impressive this season, winning four of the seven games they’ve hosted and scoring an average of 1.86 goals per game. Josh Andrews has been excellent in attack recently and is Accrington’s top scorer in League Two with five goals.
The 22-year-old has scored three goals in his last two matches and his latest goal was in Accrington’s 2-0 win away to Grimsby. The hosts were on top in the first half and John Coleman’s side were lucky to go into the break without being two goals down. The ‘Owd Reds took advantage of a Grimsby red card in the 72nd minute, as Shaun Whalley responded by opening the scoring. Andrews then doubled the lead ten minutes later.
MK Dons
Mk Dons have been unable to mirror the early season form which saw them win four of their first five matches. Their most recent League Two victory came in August and the Dons have featured in eight matches since. This inconsistency has put Graham Alexander’s side in 16th place on 16 points. They’ve been unconvincing at both ends of the field and they have not scored more than once in seven of their last eight.
Luckily for the Dons faithful, they netted twice in their most recent match versus Barrow, however the game saw a devastating conclusion. 19-year-old, Max Dean, netted a brace in the first half and the Dons were content with holding onto their two goal advantage. It seemed as though Alexander would pick up three points, but Barrow scored in the 93rd and 95th minute to steal a point, an astronomical blow to MK Dons.
Verdict?
Accrington’s home form will give them an advantage this weekend and it is difficult to see MK Dons winning the tie. The squad confidence in each camp is polar opposite and that cannot be underestimated.
The final prediction is Accrington 2-1 MK Dons.
