In the penultimate matchday of the 2022/23 League Two season, promotion-chasing Mansfield are set to host Harrogate Town at Field Mill on Saturday afternoon.
After recording a midweek loss, the Stags now find themselves just outside the playoff places in 8th position in the table, having recorded 72 points from their 44 league games so far this campaign. Mansfield are level on points with both Salford and Bradford who are occupying the positions directly above them.
Nigel Clough’s side have a relatively easy run into the end of the season, as they are set to face the 19th and 20th sides in the league in their remaining two league fixtures. Compared to Bradford and Salford, the Stags have much easier fixtures and this should give them the upper hand in their bid for a playoff place.
Mansfield were unable to pull off a midweek upset as they were narrowly defeated by Leyton Orient, who have already guaranteed promotion to League One. Despite taking an early lead in the game through KD Davis, Mansfield were unable to hold onto their lead as two first-half goals for Orient in reply were the difference between the sides.
The Stags have dominated games against teams in the bottom half of the table and have not been beaten by a side in the bottom half since they lost to Walsall on New Year's Day. Nigel Clough and his side will come into this weekend high in confidence as they face a Harrogate side who have only just avoided a relegation battle.
After winning in midweek, Harrogate have ensured that they will be playing in the Football League next campaign. With just two games left in the season, Harrogate are nine points above the danger zone.
The Sulphurites' best form of their season has come at the most important of times as they have only lost one of their last eight league outings. This run has included an impressive 2-2 draw against Leyton Orient and a 3-0 victory over Walsall.
Harrogate had their survival mathematically confirmed on Tuesday evening as they defeated Newport 30-2 in a highly entertaining game. They were all but safe due to their goal difference but they rubber-stamped their place in League Two thanks to Sam Folarin and George Thomson's first-half strikes and Luke Armstrong's late winner.
The history of Mansfield versus Harrogate Town is a relatively new one, as the two clubs have only faced each other six times. Harrogate Town was promoted to the English Football League for the first time in 2020, and are yet to record a defeat against the Stags.
Harrogate have won five and drawn one of the six meetings between these two sides. The Sulphurites recorded a convincing 3-0 victory when these sides met in the reverse fixture earlier on in the campaign.
Unsurprisingly, given these sides' respective league positions, it is Mansfield who are odds on favourites heading into this matchup, currently priced @ ⅗, whilst an away win for Harrogate is priced @ 4/1 and a draw is @ 29/10.
We are backing Mansfield to win to nil as this has been a frequent occurrence in their recent games in the league. Six of the Stags' last seven league games have resulted in both teams having scored.
