Salford City down in 17th are aiming to get another win this weekend with the visit of the high-flying Crewe Alexandra after both sides secured 2-0 wins during the midweek League Two games.
Crewe's win moved them up into third in the table with them now winning five goals in 11 matches so far and netting 26 goals - only Swindon Town have scored more. Crewe have also let in 17 goals so far and now head into this one just three points adrift of first-placed Notts County. It has, in truth, been Crewe's best start to a season since their drop down into League Two.
Lee Bell's men welcomed Gillingham to the Mornflake Stadium last time out, beating them 2-0 with a goal in either half from Connor O'Riordan and Joe White. The Alex also managed to have eight shots on target against a fellow in-form side to really put them amongst the discussions for a spot in the playoffs this season, at the very least.
The win over the Gills during the week also took Bell's side onto a five-game unbeaten run since their loss to Port Vale in the Football League Trophy group stages. Since then, Crewe have gone on to defeat Forest Green Rovers where Chris Long and Elliot Nevitt scored a goal each, as Courtney Baker-Richardson scored two goals in nine minutes during the second half too.
Salford got another win last time out in a 2-0 trip away to Sutton United, as Matt Smith and Kelly N'Mai scored a goal each. It keeps the club in the bottom half of the table but they did move up to 17th in the table as well with that win. Salford have now won four games this season and drawn only one game and lost seven. It was also the second win in a row with the club beating Newport County last time out, as Matty Lund scored that day before an own goal won it for the Greater Manchester side.
Given the nature of League Two and the tense battle for the playoff spots, it means Salford are far from away from the idea of getting into the top seven, but right now, they need to build on this run of form and have a tough task in doing against Crewe.
