An early-season six-pointer takes place this weekend as Sutton United host Doncaster Rovers. When the two sides met earlier this season, this week’s visitors picked up a huge 4-1 win.
Sutton United
Sutton have become the draw kings as of late, with four of their last five matches ending in a tie. However, their most recent match was a 2-1 defeat to Harrogate in what was an end-to-end game.
Unfortunately, unless a miraculous turnaround occurs, it seems Sutton’s future lies in the National League, as they’re second from bottom, seven points behind Doncaster in 22nd. The U’s are the joint-third-lowest scorers in the league, netting 1.14 goals per game, while they also concede the most, 2.00.
Doncaster Rovers
The Rovers are in a very similar position to Sutton, however, they’ve now lost their last three League Two games. Last time out in the league, they were destroyed 5-1 by first-placed Stockport County.
As mentioned, Doncaster are only one place above Sutton, but they have a huge chance to distance themselves on Saturday. The Rovers do struggle at both ends of the field, as they concede 1.86 goals per game and only score 1.14, the exact same as the U’s.
Verdict?
With both teams being ineffective in front of goal, all fingers point towards a low-scoring game.
The fact that both teams will be desperate not to lose rather than win also enhances that.
The final prediction is Sutton 1-0 Doncaster.
