All eyes turn to League Two this weekend as the drama unfolds in the final set of matches for the regular season, with all 24 sides playing at 3:00 on Saturday afternoon.
County ground is set to be the venue for a clash of two sides in the bottom half of the table as Swindon are set to host Morecambe. However neither side faces the threat of relegation so this is set to be a rather uninspiring game.
After 45 matches this season, the home side currently find themselves in 19th position in the league table after gaining 53 points. The Robins have won 14, drawn 11 and lost 20 of their 45 matches this season.
Swindon come into this weekend on the back of two successive defeats at the hands of Walsall and most recently Grimsby. The Robins conceded twice in both of these games, an area that Gavin Gunning will look to strengthen ahead of next season.
Morecambe are occupying the 16th place in the table, having gained 57 points from their 45 games this season. A loss this weekend could see the Shrimp’s slide down to 18th position in the table.
Ged Brannan’s side come into this weekend on the back of four successive defeats in which they have only managed to score one goal. Last time out, Morecambe were narrowly defeated by Forest Green, a side who have already been relegated.
The fixture of Swindon vs Morecambe has a relatively short history, with the two sides having first faced each other in the 2006 FA Cup and the first league meeting between these sides coming five years later in 2011.
In total, these two sides have met on nine occasions and Swindon have been dominant, winning seven and drawing two of these meetings. A win this weekend will see Morecambe record their first victory over Swindon in the Football League.
When these two sides faced each other earlier on in the campaign, Ten-man Morecambe denied Swindon victory with a late Ethan Walker goal rescuing a 2-2 draw.
The Robins looked set to maintain their excellent start to the season when they went 2-1 ahead on the hour and Morecambe saw Yann Songo'o sent off, but Derek Adams' men never gave up and claimed a well-earned point.
Unsurprisingly, considering the history of this fixture, it is Swindon who come into this weekend as odds on favourites and they are priced @ ¾, whilst an away win for Morecambe is priced @ 29/10 and a draw is @ 3/1.
We are backing Swindon to win to nil because of their historical domination of this fixture, paired with Morecambe’s terrible form heading into this weekend. Three of the Shrimps last four losses have been lost to nil and we expect that this weekend could repeat history.
