Lorient will play hosts to Brest this weekend in Ligue 1 after a stunning win over Paris Saint-Germain in Paris brought the club back into the top half just as the away side moved out of the relegation zone in midweek.
Lorient inflicted the third defeat at home for PSG in the past two months after an early goal from Enzo Le Fee handed them the lead. Darlin Yongwa added a second just before half time, as Bamba Dieng netted in the 88th minute of the game to seal a 3-1 victory.
It was also the first win in the past month and since before the international break for Lorient after draws with Nice and Marseille came in alongside losses to Lille, Monaco and even a home defeat to bottom half Toulouse.
They are now sitting in 10th and above Reims in 11th by just one point with 46 goals scored and 45 let in for Lorient. At the same time, it was their 13th victory from 33 games, and although a place in the Europa Conference League seems unlikely, the club are only adrift of Lille by 11 points with 15 left on the board.
The club are eyeing up a spot above Clermont Foot this weekend, as they are in eighth and one point clear, as Lorient sit behind Nice in ninth on goals difference.
Brest registered their biggest win of the season in midweek as they played out a must-not-lose encounter with Nantes at home, Jeremy Le Douaron scored once more that day after just 18 minutes, as Mathias Pereira Lage netted in the first half of a 2-0 win.
It has now rocketed the club from 17th and in the relegation zone and all the way up to 14th with just five games left to play, as they also sent Nantes into the bottom four. Brest have only scored 37 goals, however, and only Auxerre have scored fewer for those sitting outside of the bottom four. They have let in three goals more than Lorient too with their eight wins from 33 games.
