The Toffees travel to the Etihad Stadium this weekend, where they will look to defeat Manchester City. It’s no surprise that the hosts are the favourites for the win, especially considering they won 3-1 at Goodison Park earlier this season.
Manchester City
Not much needs to be said about Man City, as every season they continue to perform with very few dips in performance. They go into the game off the back of nine straight victories, with the latest being a 3-1 victory away to Brentford, where Phil Foden grabbed the match ball.
The Citizens currently have a game in hand on the teams around them in the table, and a win this weekend could see them go top ahead of Liverpool. Luckily for City, they have yet to taste defeat at home this season.
Pep Guardiola’s side is strong all over the field, dominating in attack and defence. This is highlighted by the fact that they’ve conceded just 1.14 goals per game this season while scoring 2.45, the best in the division.
Everton
Going to the Etihad is a scary task regardless of form, but going to the stadium without a win in their last six won’t fill the Everton side with confidence. That said, they did pick up a 2-2 home draw against Spurs last weekend, which could lift the spirit.
Without the point deductions, the Toffees would almost be guaranteed survival, but they are currently in the drop zone with just 19 points. Sean Dyche’s stubborn side has the sixth-best away record in the league, which is no surprise given his play style.
Everton continue to struggle in attack, with the side only scoring 1.13 goals per game on average, with only two teams having a worse return in the league. Therefore, they will have to rely on their defence this weekend, as they only concede 1.30 per match, the fourth-best defensive record.
Verdict?
Man City should walk away with their tenth win in a row, but Everton won’t just be a pushover.
Dyche will expect his team to camp extremely deep and look to pounce on the break, which could catch the hosts out.
The final prediction is Manchester City 3-0 Everton.
