Tottenham Hotspur vs Southampton Prediction

Tottenham Hotspur enter their home clash with Southampton as firm favourites, as despite sitting on 34 points after 30 matches, Ange Postecoglou’s men are 24 better off than the Saints this campaign.

The last head-to-head meeting between these two sides resulted in a 5-0 win for Tottenham at St. Mary’s, while Southampton have managed just one win in their last nine clashes with Spurs.

Postecoglou’s side’s home record isn’t particularly strong, as they have won just five of 15 league matches this campaign, while drawing three and losing seven. However, Southampton’s away record is embarrassing as they have accumulated just five points from 15 matches, while their sole win away from St. Mary’s coming away at Ipswich Town on 1st February.

At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Lilywhites have fired in 30 goals and conceded 26, hence why we can see a heavy Spurs win here, but, with both teams finding the back of the net.

Prediction: Tottenham 4-1 Southampton

Tottenham Hotspur vs Southampton Prediction & Preview

14th-place Tottenham Hotspur hosts bottom of the table Southampton at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in what is expected to be a one-sided clash.

Date: 6/04/2025

Location: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Time: 2pm

As previously mentioned, the last head-to-head clash between these two sides saw Spurs thrash Southampton 5-0 at St. Mary’s back on 15th December, as James Maddison (2), Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Pape Matar Sarr all found the back of the net in the first half.

The last meeting between Tottenham and Southampton in North London saw Spurs emerge as 4-1 victors back in August 2022 thanks to goals by Ryan Sessegnon, Eric Dier, Mohammed Salisu (own goal) and Dejan Kulusevski after James Ward-Prowse had given the Saints a 12th-minute lead.

Postecoglou’s men are having a dismal league campaign, as they sit 14th in the Premier League table with 34 points from 30 matches, a mere 18 points behind fourth-place Chelsea in the final guaranteed Champions League qualification place, a position that they were aspiring to finish in themselves at the start of the current campaign.

Tottenham’s season solely relies on the UEFA Europa League when it comes to salvation, as that is their only realistic route into European football next season. The Lilywhites have managed to reach the quarter-finals of that competition, where they’ll face Eintracht Frankfurt after progressing past AZ Alkmaar (3-2 on aggregate) following a fourth-place finish in the Group Stage.

Southampton are aiming to avoid becoming the worst side in Premier League history, as they are looking to surpass Derby County’s points tally of 11 from the 2007/08 season. At present, Ivan Juric’s men sit on 10 points from 30 matches, having won just twice, while drawing four and losing 24.

If Wolverhampton Wanderers win their clash with Ipswich Town on Saturday and Southampton fail to win here, the Saints will be relegated with seven matches to spare.

Where to Watch

Southampton versus Tottenham Hotspur will not be televised in the UK.

Form Guide

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur enter this game off the back of two defeats to Chelsea (1-0) and Fulham (2-0) with Rodrigo Muniz and Ryan Sessegnon getting on the scoresheet for the Cottagers.

Prior to those matches, Spurs had earned a solid 3-1 home win over AZ Alkmaar thanks to goals by Wilson Odobert (2) and James Maddison to qualify for the Europa League’s quarter-finals via a 3-2 aggregate scoreline.

In-between those Europa League games, Tottenham salvaged a 2-2 draw at home to AFC Bournemouth thanks to second half goals by Pape Matar Sarr and Son Heung-min after Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson had given the Cherries a 2-0 lead.

Southampton

Southampton came desperately close to a shock win over Crystal Palace last time out as Matheus Franca scored a 92nd-minute equaliser for the Eagles after Paul Onuachu had given the Saints the lead in the 20th-minute.

In the run-up to that match, Southampton had suffered defeats at the hands of Wolverhampton Wanderers (2-1), Liverpool (3-1), Chelsea (4-0) and Brighton & Hove Albion (4-0).
