Man City vs. RB Leipzig Prediction, Tips & Stats

For our Man City vs. RB Leipzig prediction, we're going for a 2-0 win for the home side.

Manchester City are looking to progress to the Champions League quarterfinals as they face RB Leipzig in the last 16 second leg with the scores tied at 1-1.

The Champions League is arguably Manchester City's most important competition this season. The failure to win the trophy that has eluded them, and manager Pep Guardiola, for so long now is frequently used as a tool to downplay their domestic success and will likely remain that way until they finally reach the promise land.

While not at their best, they're certainly one of the favourites this season and will look to take advantage of what is a comparatively weak field compared to previous years.

The scores in this tie are level at 1-1 following a first leg tie that will have frustrated manager Pep Guardiola. His side totally dominated the first half of the game and went into half-time 1-0 up, only to allow concede control of the game in the second half to ultimately draw 1-1.

They're still well positioned to go through, mind, and their record at the Etihad stadium is very encouraging with City having won eight and drawn one of their last nine matches on home soil.

They enter this game off the back of a hard-fought 1-0 win away at Crystal Palace courtesy of an Erling Haaland penalty. City are becoming more and more competent at securing these grinding wins and while they aren't particularly impressive they will serve them well in tournament football should they keep them up.

While this will no doubt be a tough game City should win this one and progress to the next round without too much difficulty.

RB Leipzig enter this game as the underdogs but will be quietly confident of springing a surprise on their opponents.

The German side are currently 3rd in the Bundesliga and are on a decent run of form having won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five matches.

Their most recent game also saw them claim an impressive 3-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach at the weekend.

Their away form is also fairly impressive coming into this game with Marco Rose's side having won three, drawn one and lost one of their last five games on the road.

The issue for Leipzig comes when they play sides of higher quality having lost to both Borussia Dortmund and Union Berlin recently. Admittedly they've already taken point off City, but having to travel to the Etihad here Leipzig will likely find this very tough.

            Man City Team News

Man City have no fresh injury worries for this game.

Riyad Mahrez and Kevin De Bruyne could come back into the starting XI after missing out against Crystal Palace last time out.

            RB Leipzig Team News

RB Leipzig will be without Abdou Diallo, Dani Olmo, Xaver Schlager and Peter Gulacsi, while Christopher Nkunku is a doubt.

Amadou Haidara could be in line for a start here.
