5 Nations League Tips for This Weekend - Matchday 3

Latest News

Liechtenstein vs Gibraltar – Liechtenstein Win to Nil

Liechtenstein have done well in their last six games for a team of their reputation, winning 2-0 against San Marino and drawing 1-1 with both Greece and Armenia, respectively. The Nations League presents Liechtenstein with the rare opportunity of success and Gibraltar as the main stumbling block in their way. They will be looking for vengeance after losing to Gibraltar 2-1 in the last meeting between the two sides. Liechtenstein’s last four games have finished without both teams scoring.

Gibraltar also beat San Marino in their most recent outing and although they have lost the twelve games previous to that, they have recently given Kosovo and Georgia a run for their money in recent games. The away side on Saturday have already conceded 15 goals in their last three defeats.

Sky Bet are offering odds of 6/4 for Liechtenstein to win to nil.

England vs Belgium – Under 2.5 Goals

England have been solid defensively under Gareth Southgate, but their style of play has caused criticism for the England manager within the last year, as the Three Lions recorded just one goal in their two Nations League games thus far.

To add to their attacking concerns, the scorer of their only goal in the competition, Raheem Sterling, has been ruled out with an injury, whilst we still await news on if Jadon Sancho can make it to the Belgium game.

Roberto Martinez’s side have won both recent meetings between the two sides to nil, with both games having under 2.5 goals - a third-place play-off at the 2018 World Cup and the group game earlier on in that tournament.

The Red Devils are in stellar form having dominated and won their last 12 games, stretching their unbeaten run to 12 games since that Nations League defeat to Switzerland, where Belgium failed to progress to the semi-finals. The Belgian's are also ranked number one in the world and remain the second-favourites to win both the Nations League and Euro 2021, having scored record-high 40 goals in the qualifying stages.

Expect a Premier League-esque feel to this one, with Martinez able to field a team of players who currently play in the English top flight, or have done previously.

With this noted, and the contrasting forms, Belgium to win and BTTS is priced at 4/1.

France vs Portugal – France Win and Both Teams to Score

World Cup winners France take on the European champions Portugal, with the French having not lost in their last 13 games. Additionally, both teams have scored in 10 of France’s last 14 home games, it is hard to back against a team with the quality that France possesses.

Both teams have scored on three of the last five occasions that France have beaten Portugal, with one exception being the 2006 World Cup semi-final, which finished 1-0, although, the Portuguese did famously beat France in their own backyard in the Euro 2016 final.

Fernando Santos’ side have lost just once since June 2018, where they, of course, clinched the inaugural Nations League. Now, time will tell if Portugal's 'golden generation' will continue, and with Cristiano Ronaldo still around, plus the additions of players like Bruno Fernandes, there is always a chance.

For this one, we're heading for the 4/1 tips for France to win and both teams to score.

Ukraine vs Germany – Germany (-1) Win

Ukraine have been in good form recently and will provide a difficult challenge for a Germany side who are still working their way back to their former self which won the World Cup just six years ago.

Although the Ukrainians were beaten 4-0 by Spain in their last outing, they were unbeaten in the 10 games prior to this damning defeat, which included victories over holders Portugal, as well as the 5-0 demolition of Serbia. Managed by national hero Andriy Shevchenko, the side have an impressive home record and have not lost a home game since October 2017.

However, Germany should simply have too much for the Eastern European side, and Die Mannschaft have a point to prove after drawing their opening two fixtures. The four-time world champions' last six wins have been won by at least two goals, and with the unstoppable Bayern Munich players back in the squad, Joachim Low's side should finally put their marker down on this year's Nations League.

Odds of Germany to win with a (-2) goal handicap is currently priced at 21/10.

Scotland vs Slovakia – Slovakia Win

Scotland take on Slovakia this weekend at Hampden Park but will be without key players Kieran Tierney, Stuart Armstrong and Ryan Christie. They will be buzzing from their last game, where they beat Czech Republic 2-1 away from home and will look to carry on from where they left off with another victory on Sunday night. However, they’ve been poor defensively for quite some time and, other than two games against the infamous San Marino, Scotland have conceded in every game since November 2018.

Slovakia are looking for their first win of this Nations League campaign, having lost to Czech Republic and registering a draw with Israel.

Slovakia are priced at 12/5 to win at Hampden Park and with players like Marek Hamsik and Milan Skriniar expected to lineup against a significantly weakened Scotland, it could be another disastrous night for the home side.
