Cheltenham Festival Day Three Tips

This year's Cheltenham Festival Thursday brings not one but two top class Grade 1 races in the Stayers' Hurdle and the Ryanair Chase!

Our resident racing tipster Alex has picked out a 74/1 accumulator from his strongest three picks, plus a tip for every race through the card!

Carrigmoornaspruce

  • 4 wins so far from 9 races, including a Grade 3 bumper
  • Second in strong Grade 1 Hurdle in December
  • Still unexposed over hurdles
  • Attractive Each Way price available

Western Knight

  • Back at his preferred distance, where his last two wins came
  • Very solid run behind The Jukebox Kid at Ascot over too far last time out
  • Still improving and only lightly raced
  • Very reasonable handicap mark

Replaced our original tip Sixmilebridge who was a Non Runner.

Wodhooh

  • Much less competitive race with Lossiemouth going for Champion Hurdle
  • Nine wins from 10 including one at Cheltenham Festival last year
  • Highest rated horse on official ratings by four pounds
  • Will be suited by going tomorrow with ground drying out

Impose Toi

  • Has improved for step up in trip to three miles, winning twice and finishing second on his other attempt which can be forgiven
  • Already a Grade 1 winner
  • Previous Cheltenham form, finishing 2nd at the Festival in the Coral Cup last year
  • Joint third highest official rating in field

Fact To File

  • The class horse of the race, rated six pounds higher than any of his challengers
  • Won this race last year by 9 lengths with a career best performance
  • Comes here off an impressive Irish Gold Cup win last month
  • A number of high quality rivals go for the Gold Cup instead

Minella Sixo

  • Competitive race with a history of big price winners
  • Coming into form at the right time
  • Will improve for better ground
  • Has previously run well at Cheltenham and has plenty of stamina for the hill

Prends Garde A Toi

  • Highly tried over fences already, sent off just 9/1 for a Grade 2 Novice at Punchestown
  • Handicapper has been very fair with his mark
  • Ran all the way through the line over this distance in Heavy ground last time out so can stay on up the hill
  • Experienced amateur jockey on board
