13:10 - Kelso - Aeros Luck

Saturday’s ITV coverage kicks off with a handicap chase over two miles and a furlong.

Aeros Luck could be handicapped to play a leading role after finishing second on his last two starts. Jumped efficiently on his latest effort at Musselburgh when beaten under a length by Pure Carbon.

The Sandy Thomson yard is in excellent form, striking at 25%, and this seven-year-old Kelso regular could be good value to win for the second time over fences.

13:25 - Doncaster - Dream Shadow

Doncaster’s opening race on Saturday is the Listed Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle. Dream Shadow has performed to a high standard over hurdles this term, looking like a potential stayer when scoring by a yawning five-length margin at Ayr in January.

Was dropped down in trip for the Grade Two Jane Seymour Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle last time, but found things happening a little bit too quickly. Well worth chancing over three miles, and could be well placed by Fergal O’Brien.

13:40 - Kelso - Protektorat

Former Ryanair Chase winner Protektorat will be incredibly hard to beat in the bet365 Premier Chase on Saturday.

The eleven-year-old is rated considerably higher than the remainder of the field, and gets weight for his biggest danger in Minella Drama.

The Dan Skelton runner was excellent in the Fleur de Lis Chase on his first start following wind surgery, jumping brilliantly and winning by a three-length margin from Resplendent Grey. Near impossible to take on this weekend.

13:55 - Doncaster - Queens Gamble

Harry Derham’s runners are in excellent form, and that makes Queens Gamble a standout player in the handicap chase at Doncaster on Saturday.

The eight-year-old mare opened her account over fences with an impressive win in Listed company at Windsor in mid-February, jumping effectively to beat Bluey by two lengths.

That form looks strong on paper, and the mare looks well-handicapped now back down in class based on that effort over her preferred two-mile distance.

14:15 - Kelso - Starmount

Ben Pauling and Ben Jones team up with Starmount in the Grade Two bet365 Premier Novices’ Hurdle on Saturday.

The six-year-old has won twice from three starts over hurdles, with his only defeat coming when finding Idaho Sun and Mydaddypaddy too good in the Grade One Formby.

Bounced back from that defeat with a routine win over two miles at Wetherby last time. Plenty to like for connections in red-hot form.

14:30 - Doncaster - Jasmin De Grugy

A competitive renewal of the Grimthorpe Handicap Chase is due off at 14:30. Jasmin De Grugy still looks like an extremely well-handicapped runner if feeling no effects after falling at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day.

Was an excellent winner at Newbury last January, completing a quick-fire double over fences. Has been well-backed on both starts this season, including when fourth in the Rehearsal Chase.

Should be suited by this step up in trip after finishing strongly to take second in a big-field handicap at Punchestown last year.

14:55 - Kelso - Spectacularsunrise

The big betting race of the day is the Morebattle Hurdle. Spectacularsunrise could be an interesting angle for the Nigel & Willy Twiston-Davies team.

The six-year-old has won twice over two miles this season, including a course and distance success by a six-length margin.

Was well-held by Supreme hope Mossy Fen Road at Chepstow in December, before being given too much to do from the back when sixth in the Sovereign Handicap.

15:15 - Newbury - Our Power

Newbury joins the ITV party at 15:15 with old favourites involved in the Veterans’ Handicap Chase. Our Power looks back down to a workable mark, but will need to recover after heavy defeats at Wincanton and Ascot.

Showed plenty in the spring last season, including when a very creditable third in the Scottish National. Acts over this distance, and he should be capable of at least running into the places.

15:30 - Kelso - Florida Dreams

Nicky Richards-trained Florida Dreams is an interesting contender in the handicap hurdle over two miles and five.

The eight-year-old stayed on strongly earlier this season to finish second on soft ground at Carlisle, beaten only a neck by Hartington. Has since underperformed on a slightly faster surface.

With the conditions expected to be in his favour this weekend, he could be back on an exploitable mark.

15:45 - Newbury - Vincenzo

The Greatwood Gold Cup Handicap Chase headlines the card at Newbury on Saturday. Annoyingly, I liked Vincenzo for a race at the Cheltenham Festival, but the Sam Thomas runner will instead line up this weekend.

The eight-year-old has been progressive over fences this season, winning over two miles and five from Bad at Ascot, while also running to great credit when second in both the Paddy Power Gold Cup and December Gold Cup.

This trip is perfect, and he is on a very eye-catching mark.
