Marco Rose

Next Borussia Dortmund Manager Odds

Borussia Dortmund are on the lookout for a new manager following the sacking of Marco Rose after just one season in charge at the Signal Iduna Park.

The 45-year-old managed to win 27 of his 47 games in charge of the Black and Yellows, finishing second in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich, on top of being knocked out of the Champions League Group Stages, finishing behind Ajax and Sporting Lisbon in Group C, on top of being defeated by Rangers in the Europa League.

On top of this, Dortmund were also knocked out of the DFB Pokal in the Round of 16 by second-tier side St. Pauli.

All of these factors ultimately added up to Rose’s sacking, although his coaching pedigree still remains intact, having impressed at Borussia Monchengladbach on top of winning two Austrian Bundesliga titles and an Austrian Cup between 2017 and 2019 at Red Bull Salzburg.

Mauricio Pochettino Odds: 2/1

Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to get the managerial role at the Signal Iduna Park with the Argentinian reportedly expected to depart PSG this summer due to differences with their board.

The 50-year-old recently won the Ligue 1 title with PSG on top of the Coupe de France and Trophee des Champions since his return to the Parc des Princes in January 2021, but, his shortcomings in the Champions League is suspected to have raised concerns over the Argentinian’s capability to manage their star-studded line-up.

Pochettino’s best spell as a manager arguably came when in charge of Tottenham Hotspur in between 2014 and 2019 where despite not winning a trophy, he made the Lilywhites into an impressive outfit, having taken them from a side that rarely qualified for the Champions League, to finalists in formerly mentioned competition in 2019.

Before this, Pochettino had also shown signs of being a good manager at the likes of Espanyol and Southampton.

Pochettino has often shown that he is good at developing young players to world-class levels, such as Harry Kane and Son Heung-min on top of other players to high levels like Dele Alli, Luke Shaw and James Ward-Prowse and would likely be a good fit for Dortmund.

Edin Terzic Odds: 3/1

Dortmund coach Edin Terzic is reportedly also in line to replace Rose at the Signal Iduna Park.

The 39-year-old managed Dortmund on an Interim basis between December 2020 and June 2021, winning 20 of his 32 matches in charge, helping them to requalify for the Champions League, as well as winning the DFB Pokal at the end of that campaign.

This would be a good opportunity for Terzic to build on the success that he already had at Dortmund, as ultimately he knows the club and the playing staff well.

Domenico Tedesco Odds: 12/1

RB Leipzig coach Domenico Tedesco is third on the bookmakers’ list to become the latest manager for the Black and Yellows.

Tedesco could be difficult for Dortmund to prize away from Leipzig, as the 36-year-old Italian only moved there in December last year, following a disastrous spell for Jesse Marsch as manager.

Since joining Leipzig, Tedesco has seen his side win 18 and draw seven of his 30 matches in charge, on top of picking up the DFB Pokal trophy last weekend at the expense of Freiburg, winning his club their first major trophy.

Tedesco was also the manager of Schalke 04, Dortmund’s local rivals between 2017 and 2019, notably overachieving and finishing second in his first full season in charge of the Royal Blues. He has also managed the likes of Spartak Moscow in the Russian Premier League prior to joining Leipzig.

Roberto Martinez Odds: 14/1

Belgium manager Roberto Martinez is also reportedly interested in the managerial vacancy at the Signal Iduna Park.

Martinez had looked set on a return to Everton last season following the sacking of Rafael Benitez, however, he was denied the opportunity to do a dual role of Belgium and Everton coach.

His role with the Red Devils may complicate circumstances, as the Spaniard will be managing them at the World Cup in Qatar between November and December this year.

Martinez notably won the FA Cup with Wigan Athletic in the 2012/13 season at the expense of Manchester City at Wembley, as well as proving his early managerial credentials between 2007 and 2009 when he won League One with Swansea City in 2007/08, laying the foundations for Brendan Rodgers’ spell at the Liberty Stadium.

Gerardo Seoane Odds: 16/1

The final manager on this list to have been linked with a move to Dortmund is Gerardo Seoane who currently plies his trade at Bayer Leverkusen.

The 43-year-old had a good season in charge of Leverkusen, finishing third in the table having seen his side score 80 goals in 34 matches, just five fewer than Dortmund with a better defensive record.

Seoane actually made his managerial name back in his homeland of Switzerland with the likes of Luzern, when he managed 17 games between January and June of 2018, winning 10 and drawing four, instantly seeing him being snapped up by BSC Young Boys.

During his three year spell at Young Boys, he won the Swiss Super League three times in a row between 2018 and 2021, as well as a Swiss Cup in 2019/20 and was well known for playing exciting attacking football whilst developing young talents such as Kevin Mbabu.
