Next Hull City Manager Odds

Hull City are on the look out for a new manager following Tim Walter’s disastrous reign at the MKM Stadium that sees the Tigers lie in the relegation zone heading into matchday 19 of the Championship.

Walter managed to win just three of his 18 matches in charge of the club while drawing six and losing nine, equating to a win percentage of just 16%.

At present, Andy Dawson is caretaker manager of the Tigers and oversaw their 3-1 loss at Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Alex Neil’s Odds: 4/5

Alex Neil has seen his odds to become next Hull City manager slashed. The Scot has been out of work since December 2023 when he was sacked by Stoke.

The Scotsman has three promotions to his name as a manager, having won the Scottish Championship play-offs with Hamilton in 2014, before winning the EFL Championship play-offs with Norwich in 2016 and the League One play-offs as manager of Sunderland in 2022.

When Neil was manager of Stoke, he managed to win just 22 of 66 matches, equating to a 33% win percentage. The 43-year-old took charge of the Potters in August 2022, finishing 16th in his first campaign, before leaving the club in 20th-place back in December 2023. Despite this disappointing spell at Stoke, the Scotsman is known for being able to over-perform with limited squad abilities and stringent budgets.

Ruben Selles’ Odds: 3/1 (was 5/1)

Reading manager Ruben Selles is a name that has cropped up with many managerial roles of late due to his sensational performances with the Royals.

The Spaniard initially came to the surface as caretaker manager of Southampton towards the end of the 2022/23 season, where he managed 17 matches, winning just two of them, however, the Saints looked doomed following Nathan Jones’ sub-par spell as manager of the St Mary’s club.

Selles joined Reading in June 2023 with the Royals being deemed as one of the favourites to be relegated to League Two due to financial restrictions under owner Dai Yongge. The 41-year-old lead Reading to a 17th-place finish, while this campaign, the Royals are 7th in the table after 16 matches.

Slavisa Jokanovic’s Odds: 9/1

Ex-Sheffield United, Fulham and Watford manager Slavisa Jokanovic was the early bookmakers favourite for the vacancy at Hull, but, has since seen his odds move from 5/4 to 3/1.

The 56-year-old was most recently manager of Dynamo Moscow in the 2022/23 season where he won 15 and drew 11 games in charge of the Russian club, leaving them in seventh-place.

In terms of Football League experience, Jokanovic managed to earn promotion to the Premier League with Watford in the 2014/15 season, but, failed to agree a new contract with the Hornets, meaning that his stay at Vicarage Road lasted just 36 matches, following 21 wins and five draws.

At Fulham, Jokanovic managed a total of 145 matches between December 2015 and November 2018, winning 64 and drawing 36, culminating in the Cottagers’ promotion to the Premier League in 2018 via the play-offs.

Meanwhile, at Sheffield United, Jokanovic was less than successful, as he oversaw just eight wins in 22 matches at the start of the 2021/22 season, seeing him being sacked in late November.

Mark Robins’ Odds: 9/1

Recently sacked Coventry City manager Mark Robins will be a name that is linked to a lot of Championship vacancies.

The 54-year-old was harshly sacked by the Sky Blues after 420 games at the helm across two spells where he earned them promotion from League Two (2017/18) and League One (2019/20), before creating a side that could compete for the play-offs in the Championship, having suffered a defeat in the 2022/23 play-off final to Luton Town.

Last season, the ex-Manchester United forward came within a whisker away of beating his old side in the FA Cup semi-final as Coventry drew 3-3 with the Red Devils after extra time before suffering a penalty shootout defeat.

Robins is credited with developing the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Gustavo Hamer during his time with the Sky Blues.

Chris Hughton’s Odds: 12/1

Ex-Ghana boss Chris Hughton is also on the shortlist to succeed Walter at Hull.

Hughton was sacked by the Black Stars following just four wins in 13 matches, which also saw them suffer a disastrous group stage exit at the 2023 AFCON Finals.

However, something that does bode well for the 65-year-old is that he has a lot of managerial experience in both the Premier League and English Football League as a whole, having coached the likes of Newcastle, Birmingham City, Norwich City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Nottingham Forest winning promotion to the Premier League with the Magpies and the Seagulls in 2009/10 and 2016/17.

Steven Schumacher’s Odds: 14/1

Ex-Stoke City manager Steven Schumacher has reportedly been linked with the vacancy at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

Schumacher managed the Potters just 32 times before leaving his role on 16th September in what was regarded as a surprise decision. At the Bet 365 Stadium, he managed to win 13 and draw 6 of those 32 matches in charge, equating to a 40% win percentage.

Prior to his spell with Stoke, Schumacher had a successful time as manager of Plymouth Argyle as he managed to earn promotion with the Mariners from League One in the 2022/23 season and won 57 of his 108 matches at the helm of the Home Park club.

Steve Cooper’s Odds: 16/1

Could Steve Cooper make a swift return to football management following his dismissal from the managerial role at Leicester City?

During his time with the Foxes, Cooper managed to win just three of his 15 matches with what was a fairly limited squad and transfer budget.

However, prior to his time at the King Power Stadium, Cooper does have a strong managerial reputation, having earned Nottingham Forest promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs in the 2021/22 season, despite only taking over at the City Ground in late September 2021 with the club sitting at the bottom of the Championship.

Before his appointment at the City Ground, Cooper had managed Swansea City, where he managed to qualify for the Championship play-offs in back-to-back seasons with a limited squad and budget, however, the Swans fell short to Brentford in the semi-finals in 2019/20, before suffering another heartbreaking loss to the Bees in the 2021 play-off final.

John Eustace’s Odds: 20/1

Blackburn Rovers manager John Eustace has been linked to the Hull City job despite already being employed by a Championship club.

The 45-year-old was harshly sacked by Birmingham City last season when the Blues were sat sixth in the Championship after just 11 matches, prior to this, Eustace had actually worked wonders to keep the club in the second tier during the 2022/23 season and guided Birmingham to their highest points tally since the 2015/16 campaign.

Eustace has had a decent start to life as Blackburn manager, having consolidated Rovers’ Championship status last season, while during the 2024/25 campaign, the Ewood Park sit 8th, just two points outside the play-offs with a game in hand heading into gameweek 19.
