Newcastle are priced at 16/1 to win what would be their first-ever Premier League title, with the Magpies' last top-flight title coming all the way back in 1926/27.

There is a lot of hype surrounding Newcastle after their 5-1 thrashing of Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the Premier League. During this match, summer signings Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes managed to get off the mark, with the Italian midfielder giving the Geordies the lead, while the latter add the fifth in the 91st minute.

The Magpies will be competing in Champions League football for the first time since the 2003/04 season having finished fourth in last season’s Premier League campaign.

Eddie Howe’s men will be keen to test themselves against Europe’s elite clubs, having already impressed against Premier League opponents last season. The last major European trophy that the St James’ Park club managed to win was the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup of 1968/69.

Something that could help the Magpies is the intensity of their play style and crowd when at St James’ Park. In the last six seasons, there have been a total of seven English Champions League finalists.

The last domestic trophy that Newcastle managed to win was the FA Cup back in 1954/55 season.

Newcastle have failed to make it past the Third Round of the FA Cup in all of the last three seasons, with their best run of late being in 2019/20 when they made the quarter-finals under Steve Bruce before being eliminated by Manchester City.

The 2004/05 season was the last time that Newcastle managed to reach the semi-finals of the FA Cup, while their last final in this competition was back in 1998/1999 - they were beaten by Manchester United on both occasions.

Newcastle will be keen to go one better in this season’s Carabao Cup having finished as runners-up in last season’s competition to Man United.

The Magpies went on an excellent run if this domestic cup during the 2022/23 season, beating the likes of Tranmere, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, Leicester and Southampton.

Eddie Howe will have known that Newcastle have never won this competition, but, having made some excellent summer acquisitions on top of an ever-improving squad, perhaps the ex-Bournemouth manager will fancy his chances at this season’s edition of this competition.
