Anthony Martial Transfer News & Odds

Manchester United have reportedly made Anthony Martial surplus to requirements, with the Old Trafford club looking for a transfer fee of around £30m to raise funds for a new attacking player at the club.

The 2021/22 season seemed to be the breaking point for the Frenchman at the club, having played just 210 Premier League minutes up until his loan move to Sevilla, with Interim Manager Ralf Rangnick accusing the 26-year-old of refusing to take a place on the bench in their 2-2 draw with Aston Villa back in early January.

Martial had become a cult hero for United and even managed 35 goal contributions in 48 matches across all competitions during the 2019/20 season, but, fell down the pecking order the following campaign as he managed to score just four Premier League goals and effectively lost his place in the side as soon as Cristiano Ronaldo made a dramatic return.

AS Monaco Odds: 6/1

AS Monaco have been linked with a move for Martial, with the Ligue 1 outfit looking to strengthen their squad that finished third-place following an excellent run of form in the second half of last campaign.

Martial actually moved to United from Monaco for a fee of £36m, with the potential to rise to £58m following 11 goals in 49 matches for the Ligue 1 outfit.

A return back home could do Martial a world of good, as he is a player that clearly has a lot of ability, but lacks confidence at present due to his poor form.

Following the sale of Aurelien Tchouameni for a blockbuster fee to Real Madrid and the release of Cesc Fabregas from his contract, Monaco will have plenty of funds to strengthen their squad, of which Martial could be part of this as a left-winger or even a forward to provide competition for Myron Boadu, Kevin Volland and Wissam Ben Yedder.

Lyon Odds: 7/1

Another one of Martial’s former clubs in the shape of Olympique Lyon are in for the 26-year-old.

Martial was in Lyon’s youth academy between the years of 2009 and 2012, before making his first-team debut for the club in December 2012 against Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona. Perhaps, Martial may feel as though there is some unfinished business there?

With Lyon finishing a lowly eighth place last time out, they will need to improve their squad. The sale of Bruno Guimaraes has likely provided them with funds for someone alike Martial to sign, as well as the fact that they look likely to lose Lucas Paqueta, another source of creativity and goals.

Martial is priced at 7/1 to make a return to Lyon.

West Ham Odds: 8/1

Could Martial be in line for a move to West Ham?

The Hammers come into the 2022/23 season off the back of another positive campaign, having qualified for Europe once again with a seventh-place finish, as well as going to the Europa League semi-finals.

The Irons are on the up, but, David Moyes had made it no secret that he’s looking for another striker, especially having revealed that the club had an offer for Darwin Nunez rejected by Benfica in January.

Martial could be ideal for the Hammers, as like Antonio, he offers good link-up play and provides plenty of goals and assists and even offers the versatility to play on the left wing if needed. Having seen the success of former teammate Jesse Lingard at the London Stadium perhaps Martial could be tempted in a move to try and reignite his career.

West Ham are priced at 8/1 to acquire Martial from United.

Newcastle United Odds: 9/1

Newcastle United are seemingly linked with every player in the market now, due to the financial clout that they now possess under the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund.

Martial could be a valuable asset for the St James’ Park club, as despite his excellent goalscoring exploits, Callum Wilson is injury prone, whilst other strikers such as Chris Wood who was signed from Burnley in January has failed to impress so far and could ultimately be seen as a player for the short term as the Magpies look for further progression.

With Martial playing a key role in helping United’s early stages of progression under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Magpies could perhaps see him as a catalyst for their own future plans.

Martial is priced at 9/1 to make the switch from Old Trafford to St James’ Park.

Tottenham Hotspur Odds: 14/1

Tottenham are the last team to feature on this list, with Antonio Conte known to be a fan of the Frenchman, having tried to strike up a swap deal that would have seen Willian go the other way back in his days as Chelsea boss.

Recent reports have linked Tottenham with a move for Richarlison, but, it looks as though they may potentially be priced out of the chance to buy the Brazilian by Everton. Like Richarlison, Martial is a left-winger that can also play up front, something that would be handy for Spurs, as the 26-year-old could provide a valuable backup for Son Heung-min and Harry Kane.

Spurs are priced at 14/1 to sign Martial this summer.
