Cody Gakpo Transfer News & Odds

According to recent transfer reports, 23-year-old Dutch winger Cody Gakpo could be set to leave Eredivisie outfit PSV Eindhoven with a number of clubs from Europe’s top five leagues interested.

In the 2021/22 campaign, Gakpo won the prestigious Dutch Footballer of the Year award after scoring 21 goals in 47 games, including the winner in PSV’s KNVB Cup final victory against their fierce rivals Ajax.

Gakpo has been one of the stars of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, having bagged three goals in three matches. On top of this, the PSV man has 29 goal contributions across 24 matches in all competitions during the 2022/23 campaign.

It has recently been stated that PSV would want a guaranteed €50m up-front for their star man in January. Here we take a look at sides that are looking to sign the Dutchman in the upcoming transfer window.

Liverpool 10/1

Manchester United Odds: 2/1

Manchester United are the heavy favourites to sign Gakpo, with the Dutch forward having the same agent as Erik ten Hag, while also being incredibly close to signing for the Red Devils in the summer.

Gakpo recently spoke about how close the deal was to coming to fruition, but, rumours have suggested that United had to choose between signing Gakpo and Antony in the summer, choosing the latter due to their shortage of right-wingers.

According to football transfer guru Fabrizio Romano via The United Stand, conversations are ongoing between Manchester United and the player’s agents to reach an agreement on personal terms.

United are known to be looking for a direct replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, reports have suggested that funds have been freed up for the January transfer window, as the Portuguese star was reportedly on £550,000 per week prior to the termination of the 37-year-old’s contract.

Newcastle United Odds: 7/1

Newcastle United have been linked with the Dutch forward, perhaps due to the financial might which they have inherited since being taken over by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund last year.

The Magpies are third in the Premier League at present and will be looking to strengthen their chances of qualifying for European football, especially with a Champions League place seemingly on offer if they keep up their current form.

Gakpo would offer another high-quality winger to Eddie Howe’s side, while also adding another striker to their ranks, as the 23-year-old has shown that he is more than capable of playing there while at the World Cup in Qatar.

The signing of Gakpo would show a real statement of intent and would perhaps take some of the reliance on Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron away, instead, seeing them share out the goals across the team.

Newcastle are priced at 7/1 to sign Gakpo from PSV in the upcoming transfer window.

Leeds United Odds: 9/1

Leeds United were reportedly close to signing Gakpo at the end of the summer transfer window following the collapse of the Dutchman’s move to fierce rivals Manchester United.

Italian journalist and reporter, Romano, recently said that Dutch national team coach Louis van Gaal had advised Gakpo to see what was in store for him after the World Cup, which has certainly done the 23-year-old’s reputation no harm.

Gakpo would be an incredible signing for Leeds, who seem intent on bolstering their attacking options with more goal threats, while also favouring a pressing style of play, something that would certainly suit the PSV man.

Leeds are priced at 9/1 to complete the signing of Gakpo in January.

Barcelona Odds: 10/1

Whenever a player is reportedly up for transfer, Barcelona are frequently linked despite of the club’s financial crisis.

Following the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Chelsea late on in the summer transfer window, as well as there being discussions about terminating Memphis Depay’s contract in January, the signing of Gakpo could be ideal in their bid to strengthen their position at the top of La Liga.

Gakpo is priced at 10/1 to join Xavi’s project at the Nou Camp.

Liverpool Odds: 10/1

The final team on this list of clubs interested in Gakpo are Liverpool, who have reportedly sent scouts to watch Gakpo, while Dutch news outlet Voetbal have claimed that they are considering getting in touch with the player’s agents about a potential move to Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have seemingly struggled to replace Sadio Mane since the Senegalese forward departed the Reds for Bayern Munich in the summer. Could Gakpo fill the void? After all, the 23-year-old Netherlands international is full of goals and has a good aerial presence that would suit Liverpool’s crossing style of play with attacking full-backs Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold in their side.

Liverpool are priced at 10/1 to sign Gakpo in the upcoming January transfer window.
