Lucas Paqueta Transfer News & Odds

Lucas Paqueta looks set to leave Olympique Lyon this summer following a poor campaign for the Ligue 1 side that saw them finish eighth in the table, missing out on European football as a whole in the upcoming campaign.

Despite of this, the 24-year-old Brazilian had a superb season for his club, scoring nine times, as well as creating six assists in 35 Ligue 1 appearances, hence why he is attracting plenty of interest from some of the top and most promising clubs in European football.

Club Latest Odds
Newcastle United 4/6
Tottenham Hotspur 8/1
Arsenal 18/1
Chelsea 20/1

Newcastle United Odds: 4/6

Newcastle United are the firm bookmakers’ favourites to sign Paqueta from Lyon due to their financial clout and the excitement around their project since the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund took over from Mike Ashley.

With Newcastle’s central midfield options looking fairly suspect with the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Joelinton and Jeff Hendrick all contracted to the club, the signing of Paqueta could be the one to take them to the next level, especially alongside former Lyon teammate Bruno Guimaraes.

Joelinton was a revelation under Howe last season, but, it isn’t a sustainable solution to the Magpies' problems, meaning that he will likely drop down to a squad player in the near future due to his popularity around the squad, on top of the ability that he had struggled to showcase under the management of Steve Bruce.

Tottenham Hotspur Odds: 8/1

Tottenham Hotspur are also looking to make further improvements to their squad under Antonio Conte having managed to qualify for the Champions League last season.

With the potential signing of Christian Eriksen possibly being in doubt due to Manchester United’s interest, as well as there being rumours that Harry Winks will leave the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, perhaps the signing of Paqueta could be one that they will look to explore in order to increase their attacking quality from the midfield.

Spurs are priced at 8/1 to sign Paqueta from Lyon this summer.

Arsenal Odds: 18/1

Arsenal are reportedly also in the mix, as they look to add to their Brazilian contingent, having signed 19-year-old forward Marquinhos from Sao Paolo this summer.

At present, Arteta already has the likes of Gabriel and Gabriel Martinelli as far as Brazilian players go and is reportedly looking to add Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.

What is obvious, however, is that the Gunners are desperate to add creativity to their squad, having only scored 61 goals last season, a staggering 38 fewer than eventual champions Manchester City and 15 less than the likes of Chelsea in third.

Although Arsenal are linked to Youri Tielemans, the Belgian will likely be a tough target to acquire having missed out on Champions League football, hence why Paqueta is a more than adequate alternative.

Paqueta is priced at 18/1 to make the switch from Lyon to Arsenal.

Chelsea Odds: 20/1

The final team on this list comes in the shape of Chelsea, with manager Thomas Tuchel reportedly being given free rein in the transfer market by new owner Todd Boehly.

With reports suggesting that Tuchel wants more creativity in his midfield alongside either Jorginho and N’Golo Kante, on top of rumours suggesting that Hakim Ziyech has been made surplus to requirements, perhaps Paqueta could be a viable option for the Stamford Bridge club.

Meanwhile, Mason Mount often frustrated the Stamford Bridge faithful last season, having managed eight of his 21 goal contributions against Watford and Norwich City, the bottom two clubs in the Premier League.

Paqueta is priced at 20/1 to join Chelsea this summer.
