        Tottenham vs. Everton - Prediction

Spurs are unbeaten in the last seven head-to-head meetings between these two teams and have won all of the last three encounters with Everton on their own patch.

Both teams to score has occurred in all of the last three meetings, while both sides have found the back of the net in four of Spurs' last five league games on home soil and four of Everton's last five league games away from home.

Everton are winless in their last eleven Premier League games away from home, while Spurs have won nine of their last twelve league games at home. All signs do, then, point towards a win for Ange Postecoglou and co. Tottenham 2-1 Everton.

Tottenham vs. Everton: Prediction, Preview & Betting Tips

Two sides coming off the back of disappointing results at the weekend lock horns in North London as Tottenham Hotspur face off against Everton.

        • Date: 24/08/2024
        • Kick-off time: 15:00
        • Location: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, North London

Tottenham currently sit 12th in the Premier League with one point. There was a lot of excitement surrounding Spurs entering the season, who after a 5th place finish last season came into this campaign off the back of an exciting transfer window that saw them conduct some very savvy business in the transfer market.

Tottenham were already one of the league's most entertaining sides under manager Ange Postecoglou, and they've now armed themselves with a group of attackers fit for that brand of football with the likes of Dominic Solanke, Lucas Bergvall and Wilson Odobert coming into the team, alongside the exciting addition of teenager Archie Gray.

Things didn't quite go to plan for Spurs on the opening day of the season but there's plenty of time for them to hit first gear, and given there have been a number of new additions to the team that's likely going to take time.

However, this is Postecoglou's second full season in charge and while his teams are excellent to watch, there's a tonne of pressure on the shoulders of the Greek-Australian to produce results, with Spurs having been starved of success for a while now.

They need three points here to kickstart their season quickly, and it's fair to say they're heavily favoured to do so.

Everton currently sit bottom of the Premier League with 0 points. Both on and off the pitch, the Toffees have had a tumultuous last few seasons and if their opening game is anything to go by, they might not have seen the back of that trend.

The Goodison Park faithful have been gradually beaten down by three consecutive seasons of relegation battles and bottom half finishes and with the club’s financial security currently in jeopardy, there is quite a bleak atmosphere surrounding Everton at present.

The Toffees lost star midfielder Amadou Onana in a big-money move to Aston Villa in the summer and while there have been incomings to help ease that, his absence was very much felt on the opening day of the season.

One summer signing did really catch the eye at Goodison Park, however, as youngster Tim Iroegbunam, signed from Villa, delivered a very promising performance in a poor team showing. Iroegbunam is a very well-rounded midfielder with a deep skillset, and having signed for £10m he could prove a significant bargain down the line.

There are, though, big question marks about Everton’s goalscoring potential this season, as a team that scored just 40 goals in the last campaign has not been significantly reinforced in the attacking department.

A game away at Spurs is always a tough encounter and the Toffees aren’t favoured to get much, but if they can put in a performance and grind out a result it’ll do wonders for their morale.

        Where To Watch

This game will not be televised live to U.K. audiences, but full radio coverage will be provided by BBC Radio 5 Live.

        Team News

        Tottenham Team News:

Rodrigo Bentancur left the pitch on a stretcher in Spurs' game at Leicester on Monday night and will almost certainly miss out here, while Pedro Porro picked up a knock and is a doubt.

Should Porro be deemed unfit, either Archie Gray or Djed Spence will deputise in his absence.

Predicted lineup: Vicario: Porro, Romero, Van de Ven; Udogie; Sarr, Gray, Maddison; Kulisevski, Solanke, Son.

        Everton Team News:

Ashley Young is unavailable through suspension following a red card at the weekend, while defender Jarrod Branthwaite is expected to miss out once again with injury.

Séamus Coleman, James Garner and Youssef Chermiti all remain on the treatment table.

Predicted lineup: Pickford; Holgate, Tarkowski, O'Brien, Mykolenko; Iroegbunam, Gueye; Harrison, Doucouré, McNeil; Calvert-Lewin.

Tottenham vs. Everton - Form Guide

Spurs' first game of the season took place in the Midlands where they squared off against Leicester City. It was a game Tottenham were expected by most to win, and win fairly comfortably, given Leicester have entered this season in an unstable state, ill-prepared for Premier League football after a pretty quiet transfer window following the departure of their manager, Enzo Maresca.

Postecoglou's side dominated the first half and played some excellent football, with James Maddison pulling the strings in the final 3rd. It was the England man who provided the decisive action for Spurs' opener, as his fine cross was guided into the far corner by Pedro Porro.

However, the pendulum swung in the 2nd half and Leicester came out swinging, eventually equalising through a goal by Jamie Vardy.

Spurs huffed and puffed but the scoreline remained level, with the North London club failing to establish the same kind of rhythm that was apparent in the first half.

Spurs' second half performance will be a point of concern for fans no doubt with many of last season's poor defensive habits on display, and while it's too early to start drawing any major conclusions they could do with easing some of those fears this weekend.

Everton’s first game of the season saw them welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Goodison Park. It was very much a forgettable encounter for the Merseyside-based club who were firmly put to the sword in a 0-3 loss.

The game started evenly and Everton threatened the Brighton backline, largely through Jack Harrison on the right-hand side, but once Brighton opened the scoring through Kaoru Mitoma the game gradually slipped out of Everton’s grasp.

Brighton were clearly the better side in the second half and doubled their lead ten minutes after the restart, and once Ashley Young was shown a red card in the 66th minute there was no way back for the Toffees, who conceded a third just three minutes from time.
