Domestic football returned around the world this weekend following the international break. Clubs around the planet were in league action and we saw some absolutely fantastic goals during it. Zlatan Ibrahimovic grabbed most of the headlines over in the States with LA Galaxy, where he reached even more dizzying personal heights. His goal in their defeat against Toronto FC was his 500th career goal, putting him alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo as the only current active players to reach that total and he did it in some style. The big Swede scored a crazy roundhouse kick which stunned the whole stadium, with even the opposition supporters applauding his efforts.
Then over in France Dimitri Payet gave it his best shot to win the goal of the weekend gong, scoring an absolutely incredible side foot volley against Guingamp at the Stade Velodrome. The former West Ham man has a knack for producing the spectacular and he kept it up with the outrageous effort, but it now looks like he has a serious contender from the Belgian First Division B.
Union SG aren't a household name when it comes to Belgian football let alone around Europe, but they've put themselves on the map after this absolutely outrageous effort by their forward Youssouf Niakate this weekend. The 25 year-old has only appeared in 3 games for the club and he's scored in all 3 so far, with his most recent one certainly taking some beating. He was lurking just inside the box and had to re-adjust to meet the cross from the right. After getting into position he pulls off a ridiculous swivel to flick the ball into the top left with his left foot - an absolute worldie.
We've watched it back countless times and still can't get our heads around how he's scored it - just doesn't look possible! Watch this worldie of a strike below from two angles: (Videos courtesy of @dleondeportes and @MartinVachiery)
