The Group Chat Discusses Haaland’s Odds & Statistics

Recently, the Group Chat via Betfair met up to discuss Erling Haaland’s season so far, with Wil Perry, Alan McInally and Sam Rosbottom offering their thoughts and analysis.

So far this season, Manchester City have looked unstoppable at times, and more than ever in their 6-3 mauling of local rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

During this match, Haaland scored a hat trick, becoming the first City player to score a hat trick in the Manchester derby during the Premier League era, whilst also assisting Phil Foden twice as the Englishman scored a hat trick. This was only the third time in Premier League history that two players from the same side had managed this feat in the same match.

Below we take a look at some of the statistics that the Norwegian has generated via his scintillating performances.

Will Haaland Break Salah’s Premier League Record?

In the Premier League, Haaland has scored 14 goals in just eight matches, whilst his hat-trick against United means that the former Borussia Dortmund man has bagged three home hat-tricks in a row, doing so at the expense of Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest prior to last Sunday.

On top of this, Haaland has scored more goals than 13 separate teams have managed in the Premier League this season, whilst his hat trick against the Red Devils also means that he is the quickest player ever to have scored three Premier League hat tricks, doing so in just eight matches, a mere 40 games quicker than the previous record set by Michael Owen.

McInally has been so impressed with Haaland that he notes that he can “see him getting another three hat tricks”. At present, Haaland is already a quarter of the way to Sergio Aguero’s all-time record of 12 Premier League hat tricks.

The record for the most goals in a single Premier League season under the 20-team format was set by Mohamed Salah of Liverpool in 2017/18, when he scored 32, Perry predicts that Haaland will score 42, whilst Rosbottom jokes if the Norwegian will manage to beat this record before or after Christmas.

A question that will remain in the minds of Manchester City fans, is can the Norwegian inspire them to win the Champions League for the first-ever time? McInally believes that he could be, having seen the Sky Blues go so close in recent years.

‘He’s Costing us a lot of Money at the Minute’

Rosbottom jokes that Haaland is costing Betfair a lot of money at the minute, which is understandable considering Haaland’s goalscoring rate.

On Betfair, Haaland is priced at 4/9 to score 35 or more goals, as the Norwegian has a projected Premier League goals tally of 67 if he maintains his current goalscoring rate.

The 22-year-old is priced at 13/10 to score 40 or more, something both Perry and McInally both believe that he will manage, as the Scot undercut his colleague by just one goal, joking he’d score 41 league goals in the 2022/23 campaign.

Haaland is notably priced at 9/2 to score 45 or more goals and has the odds of 16/1 to score 50.

On top of this, Rosbottom makes an important point to consider, the Norwegian won’t be playing in the World Cup following Norway’s failure to qualify, meaning that Haaland will be fresh when the Premier League resumes on Boxing Day.

The final odds that are discussed are Haaland’s Specials, with the talismanic figure being priced at 6/4 to win both the Premier League Golden Boot and the Champions League Golden Boot. So far, Haaland has scored five goals in Europe’s premier competition, one more than Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane in second place.
