Experience behind the scenes events that play a role in the success and failure of a football club as well as the lives of the players and fans of this football club.

Episode 1 - At The Helm

Altrincham FC Manager Phil Parkinson is looking to take one of the most famous non-league clubs in the country to back-to-back promotions up the football league ladder. Episode 1 of The Real Game looks into the ecstatic highs that happen on the pitch as well as difficult lows off the pitch that come part and parcel with the job of managing a football team like Altrincham to success. We look into the aspect of the manager's life away from the 90 minutes on the pitch such as the impact the job has on Phil’s family.

Episode 2 - Back In The Fold

Four years after appearing in ‘Class of ‘92’ documentary ‘Out of Their League’ with the likes of: Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes, striker Jordan Hulme is now a key figure for National League North side Altrincham FC. After a long wait on the sidelines, Hulme returns to the pitch to face Chester and former Salford City coaches ‘Jonno’ and ‘Bern’. This time he's looking to prove a point to the men that released him only three weeks after fulfilling his childhood dream of becoming a professional football player.

Episode 3 - Road To The Play-Offs

Altrincham’s fight for automatic promotion is dealt a major blow after a disastrous injury-time mistake produces heartbreak. After his injury-time mistake, Tony Thompson talks about the effects that similar mistakes have on individuals and the changing room as well as the logistics of playing for Altrincham on top of having a full-time job. Ahead of Altrincham’s play-off game against Blyth Spartans, we look into how the club is seen through the eyes of the fans and what the club means to them.

Episode 4 - The Final Hurdle

After 43 National League North games, Altrincham are just one game away from the play-off final with top of the table rivals Chorley being the only thing standing in their way. However, a controversial decision from the referee leads to frustration and leaves Altrincham’s promotion hopes hanging by a thread. In the final episode of the documentary find how if Altrincham’s hard work and persistence throughout the season earns them a place in the play-off final and a step closer to promotion.
