It's been a transitional season for Manchester United but their supporters will be confident that good times are just around the corner. Since the toxic Jose Mourinho era drew to it's conclusion following a 3-1 schooling at the hands of Liverpool the clubs hierarchy decided to make the bold move to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as his interim successor - a move that initially raised eyebrows. But 10 games in, no defeats and 9 wins the mood around Old Trafford has changed completely.
They're now fully back and involved in the race for the top 4 and with the next round of the Champions League set to begin on Tuesday with a tie against Paris Saint-Germain - hopes are high up in the north west that they can end the campaign on a high. Solskjaer has got the Red Devils back playing the 'United Way' and the club have been keen to maintain the feel good factor by tying down a number of first team players down to new long-term deals.
The likes of Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw and Anthony Martial have all been tied down to lucrative new contracts, whilst Ashley Young and Ander Herrera are also expected to commit their futures to United very soon.
But one renewal which has really made the headlines is that of Phil Jones. The 26 year-old has been at the club since 2011 and despite never breaking through as one of the first names on the teamsheet, he's evidently seen as an important member of the squad.
Solskjaer told manutd.com “Phil knows what it takes to be a Manchester United player. He has won the Premier League, FA Cup and Europa League and is now one of the senior players within the team. He is coming up to his 27th birthday and entering into his prime years as a centre-half. We are delighted Phil has committed his future to the club.” Words that aren't echoed by the Manchester United supporters - especially with him taking home a reported £100k a week...
