WATCH: Crazy goalmouth scramble leads to Southend goal at the other end!

Latest News

An early contender for the craziest goal of the year!

2019 is officially here and the first match day of the year provided plenty of entertainment and goals. There's a full set of fixtures across Englands top 4 divisions (Premier League - League Two) spread over the next couple of days and we've already seen some very good games. One of the most bizarre moments came in League One, when Southend and Gillingham faced off at a freezing Roots Hall.

The hosts took the lead just before half-time through Sam Mantom and it remained 1-0 till the latter stages of the game, where the drama really happened. Gillingham threw everything at the Shrimpers trying to get an equaliser and with just 10 seconds left on the clock it looked like they got one in a ridiculous goalmouth scramble - however the referee somehow managed to judge that the ball didn't go over the line which led to several Gills players complaining.

Whilst they shouted at the referee the Southend players played on and managed to break forward, forcing a 2 on 1 with Gillingham goalkeeper Toma Holy. Taylor Moore made no mistake after being pretty much gifted a goal by teammate Simon Cox to round off one of the craziest 20 seconds of football you're going to see in 2019!
