There are some derbies and rivalries in club football around the world and not many of them have the intensity of the Istanbul derby. Twice a season the capital of Turkey draws to a standstill as it's two elite teams battle it out for bragging rights and three points in the Turkish Super Lig. Fenerbahce and Galatasaray have been two of the most dominant forces in the domestic game in Turkish history so it adds a little more spice to an already massive game.
On Friday night the pair faced off at Galatasaray's home, the Turk Telekom Stadium and boy did it deliver. It was a game that saw 4 goals, with the visitors battling back from 2 goals down - with both their efforts coming in the space of just 6 second half minutes. But that wasn't where the drama started and ended - the game saw 6 yellow cards and 3 red cards. All the dismissals came in the closing stages when a massive brawl erupted which saw both sets of players and staff clash on the pitch.
It resulted in play being stopped and the aftermath was pretty crazy! Each team chased each other around the pitch before the fighting led down to the tunnel out the way of the supporters - but this didn't stop them getting involved. Fans were throwing objects onto the pitch and at the players, resulting in events that no one wants to see on a football pitch - so all in all it was a pretty ridiculous evening in the Turkish capital.
