Wayne Rooney is a name known by everyone in the football world. The former Manchester United man has enjoyed a magnificent career where he's won pretty much every major club honour available, but many thought he was winding down when he left the Premier League to make the move over to the United States. His club of choice was DC United, based in the US capital and his move was one that was greeted with too much joy initially by the clubs supporters - mainly because they were in trouble at the wrong end of Eastern Conference table.
In the 14 games before he joined the club they had only managed to pick up 11 points from their opening 14 games with a slack goal difference of -6. However in the 18 games that've followed they've accumulated a massive 36 points, with a positive goal difference of +14. The statistics prove what an impact the former England captain has made and last night he backed it up further when DC took on Toronto FC at Audi Field.
DC knew three points would take them up into the play-off positions and they duly delivered, with a superb free-kick proving to be the difference. The 32 year-old pinged one home from around 30 yards to raise the roof and get a massive win on the board against a strong looking Toronto side. It's pretty safe to say that he's completely changed the mood around his arrival with his performances and goals!
