Oxford United and Derby County will head into this one off the back of defeats each as the Rams took a huge blow in their promotion hopes by losing to second-placed Plymouth Argyle on Wednesday night.
Despite the loss in midweek, Derby still put up quite a fit in doing so. Nathaniel Mendez-Laing netted once more for his side that day, but two second half goals from Argyle forced a loss and the club down in sixth in the table with a win for Bolton at the same time throwing them above them in the table.
Derby have still managed to register only eight losses in the league this season, however, which is only bettered by those in the top three. The club have also scored 56 goals, which again, is only bettered by Ipswich Town, Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday in the league table.
What will give fans hope, however, is how they have a four-point gap on Wycombe Wanderers in seventh and have a game in hand to play over Bolton just above them. At the same time, the Rams are still only behind Ipswich by eight points in the race for the playoffs, although it is very doubtful we will see Derby make it into second with a gap of 13 points now.
As for Oxford, their loss to Lincoln City was their fourth in a row, as the club continue to plummet down the league table and head very close towards the bottom five. The last time they picked up points was in a 1-1 draw with MK Dons, as Oxford sit just above MK Dons in 22nd by only six points. In truth, they are well far from securing a safe spot in League One.
