The league leaders in the third tier will welcome the in-form Peterborough United to Hillsborough this weekend with Sheffield Wednesday aiming to extend their lead at the top of the table within the next week because of a game in hand.
Their extra game to be played will come against Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night, and should the Owls win here and Plymouth Argyle beat Charlton Athletic too, they will have a chance to extend their lead at the top of the table to six points. A win for Darren Moore's men and a loss for Plymouth and a further win for Moore's side on Tuesday could see them move to nine clear of the Pilgrims out of nowhere.
Wednesday are also coming into this game with three wins on the bounce that has seen them keep two clean sheets, let in just two goals and score nine of their own. This started with a 3-0 win over Morecambe after a 2-2 draw at Portman Road with third-placed Ipswich Town, while Wednesday have also beaten MK Dons 5-2 in this time and defeated Charlton in London 1-0.
Their only loss in the past few weeks has come against Fleetwood Town in the FA Cup, although, oddly enough, they defeated them in the league just two weeks prior through a 1-0 scoreline. Wednesday have also beaten Plymouth Argyle 1-0 in this time as well to create their current three-point gap.
As for Peterborough, they head into this one without a loss in their past three games since losing 1-0 to Fleetwood. A 3-0 win came away to Morecambe just a few days later, as they then went on to register their best win of the season over Plymouth in a 5-2 thrashing of the second-placed side at the Weston Homes Stadium. Jonson Clarke-Harris netted twice that day, as Hector Kyprianou, Jack Taylor and Harrison Burrows all scored a goal each too.
